Place was absolutely packed at first pitch. Every seat full and the standing room only sections were 3-4 deep all the way around. We were out in left field and I can honestly say our section was at least 30% Aggies at first pitch (including Lucci himself). The rest of the stadium wasn't like that so I got lucky with my second market tickets, but I was pretty impressed by the Aggie showing overall.
The energy in the stadium left and never came back after the Montgomery homer. There were a couple innings where Texas threatened and it felt sort of tense, but the place never got loud or enthusiastic after the 1st inning. It was the worst "record crowd" experience you could imagine. Beer lines, bathroom lines, strolling the concourse… just felt like most horn fans knew what was happening and they were waiting for an appropriate time to leave.
And then they did. 7th inning, the place absolutely emptied out like someone had called in a bomb threat.
I was actually a little disappointed that there was no banter, fire, **** talk, anything at all to make this feel like a rivalry game. I experienced none of that. It felt like we were at blue bell watching the Ags beat some southeastern d2 school most of us have no connection to. When I got home I read that this was the largest crowd in the history of the stadium, and that is just sad. And hilarious.
The Yeti Yard is super super dumb. Like the most idiotic student section imaginable in all of sports. What a poorly thought out, garbage money grab.
Hope we play some meaningful competition soon because I have to think tonight was an RPI hit. Horns down. Suck it sips. Bye
