Oh, you disagree, you think Roseanne was the worst?

If you go back and listen, fantasia, at some points during the song, actually sounded like Roseanne...that was disgusting.

yeah she definitely messed up ramparts...she said lamparts, what are lamparts? it really bothers me that these people that are asked to sing the Anthem can't even do it well or correctly....

also, is it just me or does it seem like more and more at big sporting events the Anthem singer messes up?

Glad I wasn't the only one that heard 'lamparts'... but it's hard to pick out the worst part, since it was all brutal. I just don't know why they can't just sing the song and refrain from trying to make it their own... it never works.

I think the American Idol auditions should start with them having to sing the national anthem. If you can sing that, you can probably sing anything.

Obviously you've never heard Carl Lewis' national anthem. Roseanne has to be worse, at least Fantasia didn't give the crowd the finger afterwards.

Agree. I HATE when people embellish the Nat'l Anthem. Sing it straight. It's at its worst when people are enjoying their 15 min. of fame. Established singers usually bow to the occasion.

I think a wardrobe malfunction would have helped this performance out because it was the worst ever.
Where do they come up with these bellowers?

I think that some of these artists forget that singing the National Anthem isn't to make them more famous....it's to respect the USA

Totally agree Ryan...all these singers try to make the anthem their own...just sing it straight up...is that so hard to do...

but i did enjoy Ruben's version of God Bless America...straight and simple...i could even hear the crowd singing because he wasn't trying to make that song his own...

When did it become appropriate to cheer during the song? Listen to it, respect it.

The worst is when the Dallas Stars fan shout, "Stars" during it. Very disrespectful... drives me nuts.

They should simply take the taped version of Martina McBride at the Packers game on Monday Night after 9/11 and use it all the time. Hands down the greatest rendition I have ever seen.

Just Martina using her pipes and singing it like it should be done.

I would have preferred a "real" singer to perform last night night instead of Nielson's numbers act.

I didn't see the one last night, but I recall Aretha Franklin's version during the NBA finals this year was absolutely HORRIBLE!!! It took about twice as long as it should, and was almost difficult to listen too.

Last night was 100% proof why American Idol is pure crap. I've never watched more than a minute of the show and I never will. If Fantasia was the best they had, then I would hate to hear what the other so called singers sounded like. I'd rather listen to a baby scream for 5 straight hours on a plane then ever have to listen to the crap that was on my TV last night.

I disagree about not embellishing the ntnl anthem. I am NOT a sentimental person...but I went to a basketball game A&M v. Prarie View A&M and this black girl sang it better than I'd EVER heard it. It literally brought a tear to my eye because she made it sound so beautiful.

Oh and Roseanne was DEFINITELY the worst. At least Fantastic or whatever her stupid name is didnt TRY to botch it! Didnt roseanne grab her crotch too? I've heard some crappy renditions of the anthem, but at least they were still heartfelt....Roseanne just made an ass out of our country. Who the hell asked her to sing it anyway??

espn was showing some sort of countdown and had this girl singing the national anthem at a portland trailblazer game. she had obvious stage fright and forgot the words to the anthem. maurice cheeks actually walked up and sang alongside with her and she was able to finish the song. and maurice couldn't even carry a tune. cool shiet.

Yea sports top 25 blunders. I remember seeing that game. The national anthem can easily be messed up if you're nervous. Hell if i was 14 and standing infront of 30,000 ide choke.

Robert Earl Keen sang the worst I've ever heard - at an A&M at TCU football game back in '95 or so. He was drunk off his ass, forgot most of it and severely slurred what he didn't forget, and if I remember correctly, he may have even stopped and restarted at some point.

They should have deported his ass right then.

I love REK and his music, but i dont think i can see him singing the national anthem sober and me liking it.

I thought it was great of Maurice Cheeks to help save her in such a tough spot. She's not the first to ever forget the words under duress but he may be one of the first pros lately to instantaneously stick his neck out and try to help someone in a bind.
