I DESPISE THIS STRATEGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are there any hard numbers to back up deciding to play the infield in? I know it raises the batters average a substantial amount. It just seems like teams get burned again and again by playing the infield in when you need to cut off the run.

I've always thought of it as a sort of all or nothing deal. You really don't have much of chance to stop the run if your back unless it is smoked but when you're in a soft liner or a sharp ground ball can kill you. I think it just depends on whether or not you feel the one run will be too costly to just allow to score.

Or you could miss an easy pop up like I just listened to from last nights Cardinals game. Infielders in normal posistion make the easy catch of a popup in the shallow outfield. Infielders in and they just miss it.

If the infield is not in, the runner on third goes at the crack of the bat and you will not be able to get him out, so unless the ball is in the air, automatic run
