Going from memory: Stanford mascots was the Indians upto late 60's or 70's when they changed it to the cardinal color. An early example of an infection affecting all over.

I believe it was in the early 70s, just after Jim Plunkett, a real live Indian, was their QB. I remember thinking it was pretty cool when he was playing for them.

The University president drove the change. He had it put up to a vote of the students on what they wanted the new name to be... They overwhelming chose Indians. So the Pres took it upon himself to ignore that, went to the Student Senate, got them to support changing the name and then the Pres chose Cardinal.NJ75AGfdt said:
