History lesson time. A&M played at the Stanford regional in 1997, going 0-2. The first game against Fresno State, they lost to Jeff Weaver, who struck out something like 15 Aggies, and ended up having a 12 year big league career. The second game, under the old 6 team format, the loser of the 3/4 game (us) got the #1 seed. In that game we lost to Stanford's (and Kingwood's) Jeff Austin, who struck out another dozen or so Aggies. Austin also played a few years in the Bigs. Unrelated note: Austin's last MLB appearance began by giving up back-to-back-to-back HR's to lead off the game.
TLDR - last time at Sunken Diamond we struck out 30 times, lost twice, and came home.
Weaver had 21Ks and it was Chad Hutchinson not Jeff Austin. If you're going to give a sanctimonious history lesson, at least get it right.
My bad. I couldn't find a box score for either of the games. But I did listen to them on Realaudio using the campus high speed internet in Chapel Hill, NC.
Also, Kyle Peterson was the ace of that Stanford staff.
It's the only time we've ever faced Stanford.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough
