No. 21 Aggies run-ruled to cap off South Carolina's sweep, 8-0
After two tough losses on Friday and Saturday, No. 21 Texas A&M dropped the series finale of its Southeastern Conference matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks in six innings, 8-0 on Sunday.
This will mark the second time the Aggies have been swept this season, with a tough match-up against No. 17 Georgia in March.
Aggies starting pitcher, Shaylee Ackerman was unable to take control in the circle, giving up three hits and two runs. Ackerman did not obtain a strikeout through her two innings pitched.
Yet, the Gamecocks took control of the finale immediately in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double by Aniyah Black to bring in Zoe Laneuax for the first run of the day.
The typical red-hot Aggie offense was unable to produce in the batter's box, scoring no runs. South Carolina pitcher Donnie Gobourne tallied seven strikeouts and only gave the Maroon & White two hits through six innings.
Ackerman was relieved in the circle after giving up a one-run bomb in the bottom of the third inning to Jordan Fabian. Emiley Kennedy was unable to turn the game around, giving up another homerun to Black and a two-RBI single by Giulia Desiderdio.
Catcher Riley Valentine was able to end the dreadful inning by throwing Kyye Ricks out at second base.
After an unsatisfactory performance in the circle by Kennedy, Emily Leavitt entered to finish off the game. Leavitt was unable to slow down the momentum that the Gamecocks had gained, giving up two walks, three runs and one hit through 1.2 innings.
Leavitt was unable to obtain and hold control from the time she entered the circle to the minute the Gamecocks walked the game off in the sixth.
Hannah Hawley was hit by a pitch, and Fabian was walked to put two runners on base without swinging the bat. Laneaux was then able to advance the runners to scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.
Black entered the batter’s box and called the game with a home run over the left-center wall to run-rule the Aggies.
The Aggies will return back to Davis Diamond on Wednesday to take on Texas State at 6 p.m. Following the midweek clash, they will travel to the state of Mississippi to take on Ole Miss, Friday through Sunday. All games can be streamed on SEC Network+.
