.. the game on monday
I need to Rant so bare with me

I've always thought Houston baseball fans have sucked, they treat games like a social event. I grew up in Humble, went to a lot of Astros games while I was in High School. I went to about 15 last season. I was reading the paper this morning in Baton Rouge and saw it was going to be Prior vs. Clemens, so I called and eneded up getting tickets.

Back to the fans sucking.... I was sitting field level halfway between third and the foul pole about 30 rows up, for the fist 5 innings i saw maybe 5 or 6 pitches where there wasn't someone standing in the aisle blocking part of the view from the mound to the plate, it sucked. I could have known more of what was going on listening to Milo. I saw none of Clemens' strike-out pitches, and hardly any of Prior's for that matter.

And it wasn't just fans, during the first pitch an usher came and escorted people to their seats about three rows down, walked right down the row during the pitch with about four clueless people dragging behind him.
At one point during the game, there were two beer vendors and a foam finger/pennant seller all in the aisle at the same time.

Put that together with the family of cubs fans sitting next to me with two daughters and a mom that screamed "let's go cubbies lets go," litterally twice every batter, no matter which team was at the plate, the fact that teams I wanted to win this weekend had 25 consecutive innings where they scored a total of 3 runs, and the fact that lifetime the astros are like 4-30 when I go watch them and I have to place part of the balme of Clemens' first lost on myself for that reason, tonight at Minute Maid sucked.

If you're still reading, thanks

at Pac Bell they have huge signs saying to wait until between innings. so, being some of the best fans in the world, the giants groups chill around the aisle entrance for awhile until there is a break. and the ushers arent complete morons either.

i know exactly what you're talking about. my season tickets are kind of in the middle of a row and people at one end go the direction with the most amount of seats to get by to get to the aisle! instead of going only a few seats in the opposite direction...
and they do this at least 6 times a game...

If you ever watch a Rangers home game on TV, you will invariably see a blonde chick sitting in great seats behind home plate constantly talking on the cell phone....... what a waste of a ticket!

Wait a minute....it all makes sense now. Those fans were purposely blocking your view of the game. With a record like that when you ARE watching, we should have had more fans get in your way.

PedroJack07- Please never ever attend another 'Stros game again.

I agree it is often very frustrating trying to watch a game with people who are not really there for baseball. I have found that the cheaper seats have real baseball fans and you usually do not have this problem and if you do they have no problem in yelling the person down.

I went to a game at Coors field a couple of years ago with my uncle. The ushers there actually block off the aisles until the half inning is over. People are allowed to leave, but they can't get back in until the third out is made. It was very nice watching the game there. They claim that it is for safety, so that the people going down the aisles don't get hit with balls or bats. Whatever the reasoning is, it worked and made watching the game much easier.

They do the same thing at Bank One Ballpark (Arizona). It's great.

The Astros will be a social event until they stop underachieving year in and year out. There's not much going on on the field (other than Clemens) that should pique anyone's interest.

I remember the raucous crowds during the playoff years of 80 and 86. Those teams didn't win in the playoffs either, but at least they showed up.

Astro fans do not suck, they're just constantly in wait and see mode and won't invest any emotion in this ****ty team until they actually do something. Being one of those fans, I don't blame them one bit.

I'm going again on Saturday, it should be better; seats are 2nd row of the terrace deck so I should get to see a lot of the game. Clemens is pitching again so if they lose, I think I’ll do the team a favor and not go again this year. Unless I go with my friend who hasn't seen a loss this season in the five games he's gone to.

you're wrong. compared to the fans of most other teams, astros fans do indeed suck. sorry to burst your bubble.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm taking my nephew to the game for his seventh birthday. I would like for him to see a win. Well, PedroJack07, maybe you are due to see an Astros W.
PedroJack07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
well... they are 3-3 for the last 6 games I've been to, and they've lost the last 2, so maybe things are changing and they'll pull one out on Saturday

"you're wrong. compared to the fans of most other teams, astros fans do indeed suck. sorry to burst your bubble."

I'm sure you have facts to back that up, like decibel levels at each stadium, etc.....Astro fans are no different than other fans in a big city where there are other things to do than catch a ballgame....they're just used to losing, choking, underachieving teams. It does wear on the collective masses to a point where they just don't give a **** anymore.

If that's your definition of a bad fan, then that's fine. Judge the team, they are the ones who suck, not the fans.
WoMD
How long do you want to ignore this user?
there are some good fans in the group, but on the whole they really aren't that good. i compare this to a number of other cities. this is based from personal experience, not decibel number and that c**p.
WoMD
How long do you want to ignore this user?
oh, and i would put you in the bad fan category. good fans don't go around getting down on the team like that so early. but i guess i should expect that--you are a horn, no?

What is your definition of a good fan? Not a loaded question, Im just curious.

I do agree to an extent with Thorns though. The Stros consistently underachieve and choke plus they have no history to hold onto like the Red Sox and Cubs do. They are a very frustrating team to follow. And the games Ive been to this year have all been enjoyable-packed ballpark, most fans into the game. Obviously Minute Maid doesnt have the atmosphere that Wrigley or somewhere like that has, but its not as bad as some of you are making it out to be.

1st row terrace deck seats rule. Thats where I was for the CLemens-Prior game in question. Ironically, I am also going on Saturday.

So my nephew has no chance of seeing an Astros W on Saturday. Then again it may just be how they are playing not some sort of jinx or bad karma.

I agree about Williams. If memory serves me, it seems like pitchers loved Dierker and he sure did a lot better than Williams has with the Astros. I wish they had held on to Dierker.
WoMD
How long do you want to ignore this user?
no, dierker was a dead end. he may be infinitely better than jimy, but look who your comparing him to! should've gotten alou...
