Who are you so wise in the ways of communicating with old internet people so that you point out that you're being sarcastic to avoid being guillotined on hearsay without trial?

I'm fine with UT's over the top cellies since they keep it internal, not directed at their opponent. But just because the other team doesn't do the same, and flips their bat to your dugout isn't a great reason to chunk it back. Ignore your opponents, in the moment.

I loved how Tony V threw the bat into the Auburn players and then ran back to his dugout. Real tough guy.

Auburn did not do "excessive" bat flips at Olsen.

Tennessee causes all this to happen because their coach is a dbag and players act like their coach. As do their fans.

Player and Vitello should have been tossed and Vitello should have gotten a two game suspension.

That is fair - I have a typo here that I would like to fix -

Quote:

Keep the bat - call it even - in the meantime, if the Ags were first place in baseball - then I would excuse throwing the bat back…
The last time we were #1 in anything other than track and equestrian was girls basketball in 2011. Meanwhile, Tennessee has the most dominant college baseball team in recent memory. I wonder how good that feels...

I would love to see aTm dominate in a sport I care about. If that means our coach is a jerk, it is what it is... I would have never thought this before Johnny Football, but he showed me winning is fun even if opposing fanbases don't like you.

Have you noticed that both times Tennessee faced adversity in the SEC Vitello has completely spiraled out of control. After losing to Alabama he was pissed how they celebrated and got himself ejected the following day, and now losing to Auburn this happens.

He hasn't lost much this year, but when they do they don't handle it well. They will face adversity in the postseason no matter who they play and I'm not sure how they will handle it.

Pretty huge difference there IMO. Johnny was the best on the field and had lots of fun off the fieild. And folks didn't like him for one or both of those reasons. Oh and he was a 20 yr old with immediate national fame.

Vitello by all accounts appears to be a great coach. But he's also quite immature, he's often irrational and I'm so glad he doesn't represent our university. Winning or not.

I like bat flips and taunting in baseball. It's fun. I'm also okay with pitchers showing up hitters after a big K.

I just don't like when coaches and umps make it about themselves

So where do you draw the line on bat flips? Flipping it all the way to the opponent's dugout should be routine now?

It looked to me like he didn't flip it all the way there. Granted it did bounce and roll there. My point is it's not a coach's place to throw it back. That seems childish. He's the leader of the group. He can take exception to it, but don't fight fire with fire and throw it back the other way into the auburn players.

Vitello's throwing of the bat actually was closer to hitting a player than the Auburn guy was

I've never argued that Vitello's actions were justified. He's a buffoon. I'm focused on the fact that none of the umpires even acknowledged what the Auburn player did. The fact that a bat flip has gone from one quick flip near the plate to a bat thrown with such force that it reached the opposing dugout shows this has gotten ridiculous.

If the umpires down rein in this behavior, it will only get worse.

Both sides were idiots in this.

Softer than wet toilet paper. Its okay for his team to dish out similar antics, but once someone does it to them, plays victim. The man has the most talented team in the country, and he has acted like this on numerous occasions. If he and his team don't act the way they do in games, they don't get bat flipped into their dugout. You act arrogant, other teams are going to show you up. Don't act that way if you can't handle the backlash.

Imho, guys who act like Vitello can never handle the backlash.

Will be interesting to see how this all ends.

Aggie baseball spent multiple weeks ranked #1 in 2016 even into May and didn't act like that.

Maybe you mean finish the season #1, but Tennessee hasn't finished their season yet. I have a feeling they won't finish #1 either.

I am glad we don't act like that and 2016 was a lot of fun until we got swept in our third SEC series in Gainesville and lost at home to TCU in the Supers. Imagine sweeping UF instead of being swept and keeping on that run - that would be almost as good at the Vols are this year…
This Tennessee team is MUCH more dominant than that team and is arguable the most dominant team in SEC history.
My point is that winning is a lot of fun - having character issues in athletics isn't - but I would take Ws with the issues all day…. Not sure I would have said that before football 2012

This UT team seems like they're going to destroy their regional and then lose to a 2 seed ACC or Big 12 team in the supers. Just calling my shot.

I feel like teams that play like this tighten up when it truly counts and get inside their own heads and falter. But we'll see

Teams look good without acting like immature children every day.

"Angry Nick Saban" is my favorite entertainment, but we've never considered him or his teams to be petulant.

We all want to win. Saying "I want to win, so would tolerate whatever amateurish BS" ain't the only answer.

That would be hilarious. Tennessee fans are mostly awful (second to lsu in my book) so them losing in the supers would be a delight…

One huge problem going on right now is there is a lot of d-bag tendencies going on in at every level of baseball especially in high school and college. When I played in college 10 years ago, bat flips were almost non existent but for maybe a big walk off. I agree with many that Vitello is a b**** and his team seems to reflect that, but knows how to push the right buttons to win. Not a guy I would ever want to play for and if I did play against one of his teams back in the day, it would make for a long series holding emotions back. This crap he does is just uncalled for from the head coach of D1 baseball program and he's going to get one of his players hurt one day.

Coastal
Fresno
Georgia
Oregon State's second title...

The best team seldom wins the CWS. Since gorilla ball ended, the game favors whoever has the deepest pitching that gets on a roll and doesn't make errors. LSU's run was amazing, but it was a different game. The rules were simple, and Bertman mastered them.

Culture is definitely changing quick. Lot of soft skin on these try hard players these days. It's rampant in high school now.

Oh and Tony V is such a little man. Figuratively and literally. Someone needs to put him in the closest dumpster. I truly struggle to understand how an adult man can act like that and not despise themselves.

That's well said and 1 agree 100%. The on the field behavior is out of control at many programs. Tennessee is just one example. Baseball has gotten away from self policing this nonsense and it's high time that the worst offenders get their comeuppance. Former players understand this much better than the general public. If done properly there is little risk of injury other than a sore back for a couple of days.

Great call.

And, since this is the first time I had seen this thread, which was a fun read; and, had watched the videos of the bat flip controversy, I can definitely say that Hop was smoking something when he argued that the flip was intentional to the Tennessee dugout.

I mean, there's video, dude. Seriously?

The craziest thing to me...their player was so incredulous that he was being ejected for his comments toward the umpire. That kind of stuff gets you thrown out of a game for as long as I've been watching baseball.
