Stroke of bad luck?

I know you're being facetious.

But I would assume recruiting, coaching, injuries last year and this year, player retention from the draft and otherwise, plus a team that seemed to press mentally at the plate from the first series against inferior competition through last weekend all contributed to the .249 batting average.

I would guess having Hunter Coleman's arm bones fully connected throughout a full season would have won us a few more games, enough to host. And I'm also of the opinion that Will Bolt could coach this same team in a hypothetical repeat of the 2019 season and have them hit at least as well as the 2017 or 2018 teams. Part of it is between the ears.

But no, not luck. Everything mentioned, including the mental approach, is part of coaching a college baseball team.

You made me think of something. TCU apparently got into the tournament because some of their hurt players had gotten healthy again. Why couldn't we be given the benefit of the doubt and have a host because Hunter Coleman is back and healthy again? Ludicrous.

Because the committee does what they damn well want to.

You already know the answers to those questions. I see you working though.

Wasn't sure if Seely and Rob were at Nebraska simultaneously

Frequent poster with VERY rigid guidelines required to retain the head man is suddenly curious about the head man's wing men.

I just had never considered it

Are my guidelines all that unreasonable?

If you consider that no coach in the history of college baseball has ever been fired with RC's resume, yes. Is there a comp I missed?
Not hosting for 3 straight years is a strong negative.

In Gabe's Diamond Notes, he said:

I think a top 10 program looks like this:

  • Host a regional about four times every five or six years.
  • Gain a top eight national seed at least twice during each five- or six-year window.
  • Get to Omaha at least twice every five or six years.
  • Win games in Omaha

I say why can't we be a top 10 program?

Bolt and seeley need to be replaced at the end of the season. However regionals hiring track record is worse than RC's hiring of an offensive coordinator. Somebody else needs to do the hiring for regional.

Why didn't we get the benefit of the doubt, with Hunter Coleman coming back healthy?

Because he's a .211 hitter.

You would have to probably look at Clemson firing Jack Leggett but even then it's not apples to apples as Leggett was at Clemson longer.

"Leggett led Clemson to 955 victories, six College World Series trips in 22 seasons and a legacy as one of college baseball's top coaches.

However, the Tigers have not reached Omaha, Nebraska, since 2010 and have gone 5-10 in their past five NCAA tournament trips, including getting swept out of regionals in 2014 and 2015.

The Tigers were 32-29 this past season, losing both games at the Fullerton Regional last weekend. A year ago, Clemson lost two straight at the Nashville Regional."
