Texas Tceh is way over ranked. In a three game series I would pick every other team in the top 11 over them. They have literally no games against anyone in the top ten. Meanwhile our last three weekends have been against teams in the top 10.

Tech is a tough nugget to figure out, and they are benefiting greatly from the weak as hell west coast.

Somehow the Big 12 is ranked 3rd in conference RPI, and they're the top "non acc/sec" team in RPI so they more or less get the spot.

Good for them I suppose. I'm not making any proclamations one way or another on them. They're the ultimate "no clue" top team this year. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm a little surprised at how far Florida dropped. They wouldn't have dropped out of top three for me, if at all.

This cracks me up. MSU has played cupcakes for the past 3 weeks, while we have 3 straight series wins against top 10 opponents. And we destroyed them at their home field.

Just goes to show why D1 guys overall are probably the best. In their rankings description, they more or less explain why A&M is #1 even though MSU won the league by a game(unbalanced schedule & Ags swept them at home earlier this year, plus 3 consecutive elite series wins).

PG looks and says "A&M 2-2 this week, MSU 3-0 and they won the league? Gotta be them"

Edit, just read PG's explanation, which is hilarious given that I posted the above before reading it. Couldn't have been closer if I tried.

How about this for justification?

quote:
The decision for the new No. 1 team came down to two programs: Texas A&M and Mississippi State. Without a doubt the Aggies had the tougher draw this weekend, hosting previously sixth-ranked Ole Miss, and under "normal" circumstances they would have emerged as the top team since they were next in line. However, Mississippi State swept Arkansas and therefore claimed the SEC outright and enter the SEC Tournament as the No. 1 seed. Therefore, the Bulldogs are Perfect Game's new No. 1 team in the nation.
Sweeping Arkansas at home...vaults them to #1.

Florida also has some injury issues, I do believe. They're still a beastly team, but I'm wondering if they might be running out of gas a bit. They also had 3 series losses on the year

LSU is the team that concerns me. They are much improved since we played them.

Man, Florida is really being punished for dropping a series at LSU. I think they should still be top 2.

A sweep against the #116 RPI team is obviously much more difficult than a series win (should have been a sweep) against the #6 RPI team.

One thing you need to consider about tech and the Big 12 is that the 13th RPI conference is closer to the Big 12 in RPI than the Big 12 is to the SEC.

Basically, you have the ACC and SEC on top and then a whole lot of meh.

Oh I don't disagree. But at some point the pollsters have to put somebody there, and Tech is the team that pops up.

They had a great year in a **** conference during a season that might be the most unbalanced in college baseball history.
titanmaster_race
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They probably didn't even bother to look at the schedules, and therefore didn't notice that we have series wins over every west opponent and a tougher cross divisional schedule than state.
Emilio Fantastico

Tech is definitely the class of the meh.

You are bolding the wrong part of the sentence

Do I like it? No
But I can accept this as a pretty solid reason to rank a team ahead of us. They are the #1 seed in the conference and we are not. Do I like the fact that we are the #3 seed? No. Do I like the unbalanced schedules? No. But I have accepted it as the way it is. Some day it will probably work in our favor.

If they host with LSU as the #2 seed, I put it at 80%.

No way LSU is a 2 seed now. tceh will probably get some crap team from the west as their 2 seed.

LSU is going to host a regional
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
LSU is hosting a regional with a long shot at being the final national seed. Tech may get a U La La as their 2 seed, or Rice.

Although I'm sure the NCAA will probably send Rice to CS just because.
CapCityAg89
How long do you want to ignore this user?
LSU will be in the conversation for national seed. Tech might get one of the BIG teams. I was holding out hope that Rice or TCU would scrape together a hosting resume and we'd get paired with them.

Dallas Baptist will be in the Lubbock regional, and possibly as the 2 seed. They may be the only eligible team within driving distance of Lubbock.

You thinking it'll be La La to Baton Rouge, Rice to A&M, DBU to Lubbock?

I guess that'll be what they do.

I'm thinking

DBU to Lubbock as the 2
TCU to College Station as the 2
Rice to Baton Rouge as the 2
ULL to Starkville as the 2.

Lafayette to Starkville is right on the cut off for a bus trip. If they get to fly that trip, then that might change my thinking. Tulane also going to be in the field (probably as a 2), and SE LA might as well (although definitely no higher than a 3 seed). One of the LA teams may have to fly somewhere if they all get in.

Seems the most logical since they have focused on keeping travel costs as low as possible in the past few years
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I would love to get revenge on TCU.

Will Tulane host? If not, then you've got Tulane, Rice, TCU, Southern Miss, DBU, Okie State that all need to be placed, likely at the following regionals

A&M
Tech
LSU
Miss State
Ole Miss

That's 6 teams at 5 regionals.

Starting to wonder if they give Rice or TCU the last host.

TCU to College Station as the 2

Certainly logical based on any number of factors. On the hand , TCU's AD is on the selection committee, he might be able to sway the committee in sending the Froggies out west as a #2. If I were their AD, I would certainly work the room in an attempt to get sent to a regional with the weakest possible host.
twk
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That's possible; someone from Texas/Louisiana is going to have to fly.

I don't see TCU hosting. There will be a couple of hosts who aren't in the top 16 of the RPI (either , and there's no one in the top 14 who I see getting passed over), but they will be geographic choices (probably west coast, but possibly Big Ten).
