Texas A&M Softball completes series sweep against Ole Miss
On senior day, the Texas A&M softball team sent Rachel Fox, Sara Mireles, Lauren Ainsley, and Brittany Clopton out on a good note, sweeping the final SEC series against Ole Miss with an 8-5 victory in the closing game.
Senior Rachel Fox sent the Rebels batters down in order to start Sunday’s game, but Ole Miss quickly came back in the second, scoring four runs on the Aggies and taking the lead.
The Aggies cut their deficit in half during the second after a home run from short stop Kristen Cuyos sent the runner Celena Massey home.
One inning later, Junior April Ryan tied the game with a two run home run.
Fox and the Aggie defense kept the Rebels off the board in the top of the fourth. Then, A&M extended its lead with two more runs in the bottom, after a double off the wall from freshman Tori Vidales sent Clopton and Cuyos home.
Once a new Rebels pitcher emerged in the fifth inning, the scoring came to a standstill.
A close call shook up the Aggies in the sixth, when a double by the Rebels short stop and a fly ball to the center put a runner on in scoring position.
With two outs in the sixth and a runner on at first, freshman Vidales stepped up and hit her 18th home run of the season giving the Aggies an 8-4 lead.
The Rebels attempted to battle back in the seventh after a solo homer started the inning, but they were stopped in their tracks when no more runs were scored. Fox ended the final game with a strike out.
The Texas A&M softball team ended the regular season with a 38-17 record, 12-12 in the SEC.
