We already did this year. Sorry, but baseball is not a major college sport.

If you consider baseball a major sport, then Women's basketball is too.

Doesn't women's basketball draw more attendance than baseball?

I know, I know......I have tried to care about women's sports but they just don't matter to me.

Men's basketball, football or baseball - maybe I have a narrow scope of the sports world but that is all that matters to me.

So what matters to you determines what's a "major" sport and what isn't?

Women's b-ball is not a major sport.

Football and men's basketball are the only major ones.

Baseball and women's basketball are probably about equal nationally. I'm darned proud of the Lady Ags, but we know that baseball is the #1, #2, or #3 sport in Aggieland for us old ags. There are quite a few of us who would rather win one in baseball than football. I think it would be a tough choice, and I'd be very happy winning any of the big 3.

Baseball down here is kind of like hockey at some of the northern schools.

Let's be honest, baseball isn't football or basektball, but it's definitely not grouped in with everything else. It may not be Tier 1, but it's not on the same tier as women's basketball.

People at least care about baseball.

Doesn't women's b-ball have a higher average attendance than baseball at A&M? Just saying.

JDS, understand your disappointment. I hate losing, and therefore am down myself.

We are making huge strides in almost every sport. Dude, we played in the CWS!

Moreover, what an incredible string of NCAA D1 National Championships during the last 3 years. (Women's BB, 6 x T&F, Men's Golf).

Can't wait for football season!

other than Womens basketball nobody really cares about those.

I would trade al our track and field titles and Golf title for a football conference title

and IMO, baseball in this part of the country is bigger than womens basketball.

Y'all can talk crap all you want about Women's BB but your **** ain't going to grow another inch. That FF in Indy was flat out exciting. Carry on macho men.

is that the generic Aggie fan response or was there something in the last 2 games where umpires came into play that I missed?

I'm bummed about the loss too, but don't take away from what our teams have done, what our fellow Aggies have acomplished. You may not care about the sport, but you should be proud of them.

The umpires made a few strike 3 calls on balls WAY out of the zone that had a pretty big impact on the game, especially against South Carolina. hth

We did, in women's basketball. As stated before, by definition the major college sports are:

1. Football
2. Men's Basketball
3. Women's Basketball
4. Baseball

The gap between 2 and 3 is HUGE and the gap between 3 and 4 may be even bigger.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Only three years ago we one our first NCAA championship in anything in almost thirty years. We have now won eight titles in the last three years, including one in WBB which is pretty big in the college sports landscape.

Childress has accomplished a lot of firsts in his six years here (5 straight postseason appearances, 5 conference titles in five years, 3 super regional appearances, a CWS appearance). If someone does not think we are on the right track they are not paying attention.

The WBB Final on ESPN registered a 2.8 Nielsen rating, with an average audience of 3.8 million viewers.

Let's see what the CWS final registers.

I like college baseball more than any other sport except college football, but I have to agree its #4 on the list.

I think football and men's college basketball are the only "major" sports in the true sense. They subsidize everything else.

While football is the biggest sport, to say you'd trade the track and golf national titles for a football conference title is bad bull and undermines all the hard work put it by the Aggies on the track and golf teams

Women's basketball is a clear #3. Baseball is a regional sport mixing in on the same level as lacrosse, hockey, and maybe men's soccer. Track and field is also probably in this same area, to be honest. Its not a regional sport, but its in that same interest level where the entire season is absically completely ignored and then people watch the championship. Women's basketball is kinda similar (no way the gap gbetween 3 and 4 is as big as between 2 and 3 BTW) but somehow there is coverage and interest over the whole season. I suspect thats largely due to the final four being a decent enough event for ESPN that they build it up somewhat, combined with the fact that nearly every school in the country plays women's basketball unlike most of the other sports below it.

I'd trade every national title in every sport for a football national championship. I can't do it so it isn't demeaning to anyone.

For those who don't think much about women's sports, just wait till you have a daughter or granddaughter that plays.

I would trade 100 women's basketball or golf or track titles for 1 men's basketball or football or baseball title in my lifetime. That doesn't mean I'm not proud of our other athletes - I am.

I think that's a sad perspective. Basically, you are saying you are more concerned about your likes and interests and bragging rights than you are happy for the kids that put their souls into the game.

It shouldn't be about you. Go along for a fun ride if you like the sport, or don't--that's fine too. But it's not about you, it's about them. Or at least it should be.

There alot of people that just need to push themselves away from the computer. I can't believe that we would even have this conversation. I hate it when we smack talk ourselves. Just doesn't seem right.

Really? This is an insane comment. NO ONE watches track - even the championship. Baseball has been on ESPN every weekend for 3 weeks now. There is no comparison.

And as for the comment about equating women's sport's importance to waiting until you have a daughter/granddaughter is also insane. Do you not think that that situation MIGHT have a little more to do with your DAUGHTER playing vs. the sport being important?!?!?

As for baseballs lack of major college sport status, that is attributed to the fact that pro ball is MUCH more widespread then any other pro sport and people have an almost collegiate passion for their MLB team.

The bottom line is that right, wrong, or indifferent, the only sports that society really respect is men's sports. If you have any doubt about that, go back and look at some of the comments made when Baylor won WBB. Suddently, once A&M wins, EVERYONE changes their tune to pump up the same sport they were bashing a year before. No matter what, the average person will always sneer when talking about a women's sport.

If you ask the average Joe which is more prestigious, winning a Women's Final Four or College World Series, 9 out of 10 people would say College World Series without hesitation.

I don't understand how we can pick apart the achievements of our AGGIE National Championship teams whatever the sport is. I personally come from an era when any National Championship would have been historic. Heck we kissed when we won the toss in football. I am extremely proud of what this new era has brought to TEXAS A & M University, and I think that it will only get better in the future.

Depends on if those 10 people are in the northeast. They could care less about college baseball
