Banks needs to be more selective so his power can play more. His strikeouts aren't out of control, but he's not walking enough. His defense has been good. Has always had a very good arm. He needs to start making some adjustments. Not a HS draft pick, so age will start working against him. The tools are there but he needs to improve.

Banks finished the year hitting pretty well to get his average up to .252. Also was recently told that Boomer has given up baseball, maybe Gabe can confirm?

Moss hit .359 in July for short-season Boise. Ended the season at .255.

Jester also had a good July with an ERA of 2.25. He gave up 3 consecutive bombs in the 9th inning of the regular season finale to finish with a 5.91 ERA. El Paso made the PCL playoffs.

At least so far neither Naquin or Martin got Sept call ups.

Speaking of Naquin, hit a HR yesterday and they did not make the postseason, so possibly he will get pulled up this week: http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=1812752883&topic_id=18601616&c_id=&sid=milb

Designated for assignment is different than declared free agent. The former generally is used to free up a spot on the 40 man roster or to have a player cleared for a trade.

Quote:

Martin, meanwhile, was added to the 40-man roster this past winter when he was eligible to be taken in the Rule 5 draft. Although he comes with a big fastball, the righty wasn't able to take the next step and become someone who has a big major-league future. There's still a chance that can come, but as a fastball/changeup pitcher it's hard to see that as a real possibility. This doesn't necessarily mean it's the end of the road for Martin in the Red Sox roster, but he's fallen behind on a depth chart that is full of middling right-handed arms.

Wacha picked up the win last night to run his record to 11-7. It was a better outing than he's been putting up recently but still not great giving up 4 runs over 6IP including a 2 run homer to the opposing pitcher. At the very least this is two wins in a row after being just terrible through much of August.

With expanded rosters, both Daniel Mengden and Tyler Naquin are back with their big league clubs.

Unfortunately for us Astros fans Mengden had a nice performance yesterday. He pitched goose eggs through the first five innings eventually giving up three runs in the sixth (two earned) which kept the A's in the game until the Astros bullpen had a major melt down.

Wacha followed up Mengden's decent start with 8 shutout innings against the Pirates. Allowed no walks to go with 7 Ks and 5 hits.

Minter pitched an inning tonight. 1 hit allowed but 3 K's. Season ERA down to 3.12 with 12K's in 8.2 IP.

And what is astounding is ZERO walks allowed. His strikeout to walk ration is infinity.

Naquin singles as pinch-hitter and scores tying run in bottom of the ninth. Playing well and pushing for spot on playoff roster.

Made a nice catch against the fence/wall in right center in the top of the 10th too.

After Naquin's single there was actually a fielder's choice that erased Naquin. But it was his single that started the rally, and Lindor have him full credit in the post game interview.

Mengden with the complete game, 2 hit/7 K shutout of the Phillies last night. He also went 1-2 work a walk and a run scored at the plate in the interleague game.

Rookie reliever A.J. Minter worked 1 1/3 perfect innings to become the first Braves pitcher since at least 1913 to not issue a walk through his first 10 career appearances.

Mengden pitched 7 scoreless innings yesterday giving up 7 hits, 0 BB's, and striking out 4. Picked up his second win of the year.

It was a rough outing for Stripling yesterday pitching a third of an inning and giving up 3 runs.

Alex Wilson took a Joe Mauer 104mph line drive and broke his leg last night. Tough year for Alex from a personal/family health stance.

Quote:

"I got skin cancer (on his nose earlier in the season), grinded through the second half of the season, my daughter (Rosie) broke her collarbone last night and I break my leg today," Wilson said. "2017 wasn't real kind to me."

Wacha had a great game going last night, with a shutout through 6. He even purposefully drilled Rizzo with a 99mph fastball. Then in the 7th he got lit up, took the loss, and the Cubs clinched and celebrated in St.Louis.

So is Stripling the only Ag left in the playoffs? I think Tyler is not listed as active for the DS. Can he get activated for the CS if the need arises? Seems like there are separate rosters post-season level?

Correct, correct, and correct.

Teams can use a different 25 man roster for each round. Naquin can be added at that time, or he can be activated if a position player ends up on the DL during a series.

John Stilson signed a minor league contract with the Pirates and is invited to spring training. He should pitch for their AAA affiliate the Indianapolis Indians which despite the name are not affiliated with the Cleveland Indians.
