Taking one from Okie State this next week would really help our cause. With LSU, OU, OSU and UT-Austin all putting together the seasons they're putting together, a regional might be a little harder to come by this year down here in College Station.

here's the updated softball RPI from the NCAA:

http://web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weeklyrpi/2010WSBrpi1.html

15. Hawaii
16. Oklahoma State
17. Texas A&M
18. Illinois

since the Ags would get the boost from playing on the road, a split in Stillwater might be enough to push the maroon-n-white into the top 16. Also would the committee give Hawaii a regional? (i.e. 3 teams would have to fly in)

Hawaii decided not to bid for a regional. So, no, they won't.

Hawaii will definitely not get a regional. Even if they did bid. Cal cannot host either. They do not have the minimum facility requirements so there are two teams in the top 16 that can't host. All the others have a shot but it all comes down to how many schools are in the drivable radius. What works against us is that tu, OU and LSU all fall within our radius and are ranked above us so they will pull teams to their sites first.

I would rather get a 1-seed and be on the road than be a 2-seed at home. When they send a 1-seed on the road they usually protect them in terms of strength of opponents.

The series with OSU is vital. A sweep would definitely put us in the top 16 and a split just might do it. A sweep would also put us finishing 3rd or 4th in the conference.

What does Hawaii lack? They've got the lights, the seats, I wanna say the electronics...

My understand from their coach and some other media was since they're already going to be on the mainland, they'll just stay put on the west coast for a few days and not risk having to fly to and fro Hawaii. Their stadium never came up...I figure if it's good enough for Team USA to keep stopping by, it's good enough for a regional.

With the west coast looking the way it does, there's going to be some long trips this year, no matter who hosts.

As far as playing on the road as a #1 instead of home as a #2, I think that's a hard call as a borderline #1. #15 DePaul and #12 Northwestern got that treatment last year and got smashed. Even #3 Washington was taken to an elimination game by UMass (who I think might get a regional this year, as well).

Hawaii might have a great facility, I don't know. The reason they won't host is there aren't any teams that can drive to their site. The selectoin committee is mandated to have as few teams fly as possible in order to save money, and flying three teams to Hawaii - an expensive flight - will not be an option. We see 1-seeds shipped every year for this reason (Arizona and Arizona St. for example) and Hawaii will always be in this category as well.

Playing at home is obviously the best option but a protected 1-seed on the road isn't terrible either - in my opinion - as long as you aren't in Amherst, MA. The Aggies experience up there in 2006 was terrible in every aspect.

As it stands right now, the Ags have a much better chance of hosting as a 2-seed - with Hawaii as the 1-seed in C.S. - than they do as a 1-seed. If the Ags jump OSU in the RPI by sweeping or splitting with them today then they will be positioned to be 1-seed and will most likely be shipped.

All that being said it still comes down to how many teams get in to the tourney that can bus to LSU, ut and A&M. We need teams like Houston, SFA, Centenary, La. Tech, ULL, Miss. Valley St. and others to win their conference tourneys or get an at-large.

I've read grumblings that a Hawaii regional was a possibility due to the makeup of this year's tournament and that the NCAA will be sending atleast 2 west coast teams on long trips and possibly another team on a fairly long trip out west.

Anyhow, I don't see that it'd make much sense for the NCAA to create a regional here. That means it's a strong possibility, but it doesn't make much sense. It'd make much more sense to send regionals to UMass, Tenn, Ohio State, Virginia, etc... as non #1 seeds.

that's right, I keep forgetting the Amherst experience. (in part because I want to)

I believe it was Washington that was shipped to the Northeast last year to fill in as the #1 seed

The worst part was we didn't even get to play UMass up in Amherst. Lehigh's lineup was a machine.

Yes, Washington did, As I said earlier, they lost a game up there, too.
