Can anyone tell me me how active the Jackson MS A&M Club is? Looks like I'm getting transferred there next month. I tried emailing the Club President but haven't gotten a response yet.

As someone who has moved around a bit myself, a lot of these websites are pretty out of date. I usually get the skinny from the first ag I meetin the new town but no telling how long that'll be for you in MS. Best thing is to go through the Assoc; they'll have info on the current leadership. If it's small, they may not have another gathering until Muster.

I don't know any folks in the Jackson A&M Club, but if you don't get hooked up there before Muster, the Golden Triangle A&M Club always has a really nice get together.

What area of town will you be working/living in?

Thank you mhk0105 & AgEng98, I really appreciate the good input. I've lived in Allen since 93 so this moving thing is new to us.

The plant I'll be transferred to is in Forest, but most of the Engineering types commute in from the Jackson suburbs of Flowood or Brandon. Since my wife will have to stay inTX until May (don't ask - too long a story) I have a bit of flexibility where I rent at first.

Both Flowood and Brandon are nice areas, and most of my friends and colleagues in the Jackson area live there.

There's a great restaurant at the intersection of US 80 and MS 35 (northeast corner) called the Garden Patch. It's great southern food and brings in most of the local crowd at lunch.

Depending on where you are working, we may cross paths, as I'm in Forest or passing through there every six weeks or so.

I am from the Jackson area, grew up and lived there my whole life before moving to Houston after college. I created this account just to drop my two cents on this topic, DO NOT move to Flowood or Brandon. I suggest you move to Madison or Gluckstadt. That is by far the best two areas in the region to live, no crime, affordable housing, and the schools in that district are great.

Depending on how old you are, and your family situation, I would also recommend moving to the Fondren area...it is more of a young crowd 25-30ish, it is becoming an artsy area, they have great restaurants, and there is always something going on. It is not as family oriented as Madison County, but for a young couple it would absolutely be a fun place to live.
