Forgive me, but who is Hal Mumme?

Father of our offense

Mumme-> Leach-> Kingsbury-> Holgerson-> etc

quote:
If he is so great, why is he coaching in Abilene?

Big NCAA problems when he was head coach at Kentucky.

Hot dog story is true and hilarious. Classic example that Mumme has swag of his own.

Mumme has all the swagg in world. Question: can his swagg fit under Sumlin? Swagg ain't always good. Mumme is QB specialist i e Tim Couch runner up Heisman and Mumme was personally there at Downtown Athletic Club. Mumme has more CURRENT understanding of air raid than anyone else in America. Mumme was accused but not penalized in any way by NCAA. UK and the recruiting coordinatorvwere penalized severely. Mumme once put up 670 yards of offense against an SEC Tennessee champion defense. But Was beaten by Peyton Manning who had over 700 yds offense. Had two QB's win Harlon Hill trophy at Valdosta. That is Heisman equivalent for division 2.

Mumme, while at UK, playing a Top 5 LSU team in Death Valley, asks an assistant to go get him a hot dog during pregame. Mumme greets DiNardo at the 50 during pregame while eating his hot dog, as if to say "this is just another ball game for us". UK upsets LSU.

Gerry Dinardo was kind of an anal retentive type A coach who threw up before his games due to anxiety and perfectionism. Prior to his meeting with Dinardo at midfield Mumme instructed his student manager that when he saw the meeting about to begin before game with Dinardo at midfield to bring him a hotdog with a lot of chili on it. He did and Mumme took big bites on national TV right with Dinardo. Mumme then went on to defeat LSU on national TV ESPN for UK's first victory over LSU in a long long time in a very exciting finish. Crucial play call by Mumme was a very surprising double reverse.

Read Mumme's response. Well now we know how well it can work. You combine top tire talent with the air raid and you can destroy teams.

SH: Do you think a top 25 program, one that doesn't necessarily live on the edge, can be successful playing within the Air Raid?

HM: We're gonna find out, because Kevin Sumlin is the first guy in our little group who can go around in his area and recruit the top 25 players. We're gonna find out, but I always thought you could. Leach and I used to talk about this all the time when we were at Kentucky. We'd look at all these guys being signed in the SEC. The top teams in the SEC are always recruiting the top ten or twenty players in the nation, and we were recruiting the top two hundred. We always thought we could.

Mike had the same setup at Texas Tech. There were always five or six schools competing for your recruits in the state, and he's sort of in the same position at Washington State right now. I think Kevin's the first guy who runs Air Raid who has a chance to do that. So we're going to have a pretty good object lesson. I always thought if you got better players you'd just get better at it. Coach Edwards once told me that the reason BYU won the 1984 national championship is because they resisted the temptation to become conservative after they started getting better players.

I have it on good authority that Mumme was here in B-CS from Tuesday thru last night. Attended at least two Ag practices. Kingsbury was also there at practice on Tuesday. Not there Thursday when Mumme also attended. Last night, Mumme had dinner at Christophers with six or seven local aggies who have followed his career for years.

Not sure why this thread was moved here. Mumme would be a great hire. Haven't heard anything against him other than his age, and he's not very old.

For what it's worth, the offensive coordinator doesn't have to be the "young" guy that relates on the level of the football players. His position coaches can be those guys....and Sumlin has that swag the recruits like. Th OC just has to come up with the killer game plans an play calling.

If his age is a problem, then would his son be a consideration?
