If we haven't sported better than a 7-5 record after three SEC seasons then we've got problems IMO. Looking at the history of successful coaches at big programs over the last 20 years or so and you'll find very few who took more than three seasons to have a wildly successful campaign. Mack, Stoops, Meyer, Saban, Miles, Chizik, Pelini, Kelly, Beamer, Richt, etc. all won either a national, conference or division title within their first three years. Bret Bielema won 10+ games twice in his first three years.
Recent history shows if you havent had a title of some sort or a 10 win season after three years it probably isn't going to be a wildly successful longterm tenure. Spurrier at SC is a rare exception but he was the most successful coach in college football for a decade at Florida.
