What happens if we improve next season?

What if Jones, Pompey, Kirk and Law show the kind of improvement over the next year that Antoine and Bobby Leach showed this year?

What if Logan Lee and Slade Weishuhn contribute?

What if one of our HS recruits like Bennett, Devezin or Carter, who were all named first team 5A All-State yesterday, have the kind of impact on the team that Jones had this year?

What if we land the 6-10 Lithuanian or another impact JUCO player this spring?

What if Antoine shocks everyone and comes back?

What then will we all have to sit around and worry about or be scared of? I just don't know what I'll do.

I won't have time to sit and worry, what with all the trips from Dallas to Reed Arena and back.

If all of those things happen we'll be scared of how much ticket prices are going to be at the Final Four.

Dollar Bill would never take advantage of a team's success by jacking up ticket prices. Or would he?

That day when the vaunted all-sports pass can no longer be used for tickets is rapidly approaching. What, or what will I do then?

Yeller,
Your first post was a good one, then you turn to whining about the possible increase in ticket prices. It's at that point that you lost me.
Do you expext to pay the same amount for a meal at Burger King as you would at a 4-star restaurant? Of course not. As the quality of and demand for a product go up, you can expect to pay more for that product. It's Capitalism - it's the system under which we live - it works. If you want everything at a bargain price, you're not going to enjoy much success.

Gun safety is no accident.

I am a season ticket holder and my $15 per game was a bargin. BG's teams are fun to watch. I even find the halftime antics boring.

Hey, Shotgun, guess I should have used a winky face rather than sunglasses because I certainly was not meaning to whine. In fact, I welcome the increase in ticket prices. It takes money to build winning programs.

I get a kick out of the hordes of aggies on this board who whine about having to pay $3 to park at Olsen Field.

Well, you might want to start with fear of losing your coach.

Orange--

What kind of drugs are you on?? Why do you keep saying we will lose our coach??

How many coaches have left here for better jobs on their own in the big 3 sports in the last 20 years??

RW, do you have to have everything explained to you. For one, even I will admit that a&m is a pretty salty job when it comes to football. Obviously it's not Texas but it is certainly a good-sized player in D-1 football. That being said, you've had 3 football coaches the last 20 years. One basically wasn't exactly desirable after a less than ethical run at the school. A second was pretty much a lifer and the third has been there for 2 seasons. Not a great chance for them to move on.
YOu've had, lord knows, how many basketball coaches in the last 20 years. Shelby, Barone, some little white guy, Watkins and now Gillispie.
Shelby was R.C. before R.C. was R.C.
Barone was fired. Seeing as how he got fired from a&m it ain't exactly hard to figure out why Jimmy Hoffa is easier to find than Barone. The little white dude is somewhere in Idaho I believe after getting run out. Watkins is at Mizzou as an asst. to Andrew McCarthy. Pretty much they never left for better jobs because better jobs never came calling, hard as that is to believe considering they are at a&m. I won't even insult Gillispie by putting him that category with them

Orange,

you keep spouting off about BCG leaving for another school, but as of yet, other than a list you have given no reason whatsoever for why he would leave.

And spare me the basketball wasteland crap. If he leaves, as you say he will, for greener pastures, it will have to be because we were pretty good in BBall.

So, again, why would he leave?

This time logical reasons please.

I see you already fear us keeping him. Reading your second post on this thread, you're apparently reduced to rambling on about nothing. Fear is a *****, isn't it?

" If he leaves, as you say he will, for greener pastures, it will have to be because we were pretty good in BBall." Exactly. I've already said that. What do you want me to explain? Do you really need an explanation as to why he would jump to an mid to upper-level ACC job?

Yes, I do.

Once again, your assumption is these positions are somehow better than ours. What makes you think this?? Is it because the ACC put more teams in the Tourney (they didn't)? Is it because he would have better support? More money? Better players? Better school? What is it?

Burnt Orange,

Please define mid to upper level ACC job. As of now, there are only 3 jobs in the ACC that are upper level - Maryland, Duke, and UNC. They would each hire whomever they want. Why would they want our coach?

For my money, the next tier is Wake Forest (who lost their coach to S. Carolina), NC State, Virginia, Boston College, Georgia Tech. Why would they want our coach, who has spent his entire life recruiting Texas? Why would he want to go there and take a pay cut?

Below them are Miami, V. Tech, Clemson, and FSU. Move to another football school with worse fans, lower pay, and having to recruit out of state?

Seriously, turn on your logic loop and quit wasting our time.

BG, if he continues his winning ways, will be a desirable and sought after coach at many big name schools.
It will ultimately be up to him, of course, if he leaves, but I am certain that he will be courted very aggressively by "name" basketball institutions.
Why Aggies fail to realize or acknowledge that is beyond me. I'm not saying he's going anywhere but why wouldn't he look at what is being offered?
A&M has liabilities and they have been listed by numerous posters. A high school scoreboard, bad locker rooms and poorly designed seating at Reed just for starters. If BB doesn't fix what's broke quickly it's not going to sit well with BG. He demands excellence in everything, including the facility he has to play in. Reed, as it is right now, just does not cut it.
houstontexan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the good thing is he likes texas and we can pony up enough money to make any little private school touch themselves with envy.

money isn't a problem and he's in a state where he feels very comfortable. if he leaves, fine, but i don't see him out unless something top 5 in ncaa bb comes along.

i think the horns should worry more about keeping their own coach.
DallasAggie87
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Maryland? They won't/can't get into a salary competition with A&M.

NC and Duke won't hire any time soon and when they do, it'll be a hire from within their home-grown coaching pool.

Fixing Reed's scoreboard and seating are minor issues that Byrne will resolve to Gillespie's satisfaction. Not a worry.

I think he will be courted too. The scoreboard will be fixed in a big way. The plans are already in place. We do not have bad locker rooms. In fact we have quite good locker rooms and practice facilities. Most people think like you, but it is not true. We do need some work on the seating in Reed, but I have no doubt it will be addressed.

Nobody should doubt BB's commitment to bringing everything necessary for the program to take it to the highest levels. Look what he did in the NIT. He has done a bunch behind the scenes to make the game day experience better as well. Heck, this time last year we didn't even have a spirit band. I have to think BCG is more than satisfied with the support he is getting, not just from BB, but Coach Fran, the community, and the students.

BCG MAY leave someday, but it will NOT be due to some inaction by BB.

Read this month's issue of the 12th Man Magazine. We not only have "bad" locker rooms, we have "horrible" locker rooms.

The good news is they are being completely redone before next season. The current men's and women's locker rooms will be combined to form the new women's locker rooms and the men will get a brand new locker room as well as a new weight room.

Fortunately, we now have an AD with vision. He is quickly correcting all, or most, of the shortcuts that were taken when Reed was built. Seating is also going to be improved this year and the scoreboards will be redone after next season.

I think we will be better AW or not, the team as a whole gets deeper. More scoring threats, more balance, and a continuation of the great defense will lead to better things. Someone will have to step up to be the cluth time player if AW leaves, but I don't think that is a big problem, as Mr. Jones has vast potential, glimspes of which we saw this season, and I have faith BCG is recruiting people who can get it done.

I also look forward to Pompey continuing to improve, down the stretch he showed a lot more scoring ability and got his fouls under control. Add in Slade and Martellus, and the frontcourt has lots of promise.

94chem,

You make some great points.

I see no reason why we can't be one of the top programs in the country. We're located right in between two of the top recruiting hotbeds in the country(Houston & Dallas) and have more money and fan support than almost anyone else. The only thing we don't have is the history that these other top programs have.

Think if we could start landing some of the 5-star guys in our state, we should be better than the traditional schools because many of their best players are from Texas.

BOMenace,

Unlike YOUR coach, who i guess is the reason for all the bitterness, ours is from small town texas, and there are probably four teams that i could think of that he would go to if he had the chance, Duke, UNC, Kentucky, and Arizona, but how the heck is he going to get these jobs. Any other school we could beat out with location and money if that's what he's looking for. Fan support, if we had this much support for a team that went 8-8 and an NIT bid, think about a team that is just a little better. We're going to be very good soon as Billy's ties pay their divendends. Go on thinking we are going to lose our coach because I guarantee you will not be here when you are like us for the past decades over at tu saying "we have a basketball team?"

duke and unc wouldn't really look at gillespie just b/c of the small town feel he has.
