Taking into account where the program is at, and where we have been over the last 23 years; and considering what we did last year and the coaches we have been through since Metcalf, and finally taking into account our record through 12 games this year and a near miss at Kansas...

Can anyone think of a bigger win for the A&M program than the one that took place last night?

Not just a tough, gritty, and lucky win against a better opponent, but a dominant performance by a team that is clearly talented enough to upset a lot of folks in the league this year.

No. A great win but no way the biggest win.

It most certainly did have one "first/most/biggest" attached to it: The biggest single announcement of the return of Texas A&M basketball.

Probably the biggest win since we beat North Carolina in 1980 to advance to the Sweet 16........

That was the one I thinking of as the top candidate for the biggest win ever. Soooooooo close to making the Final Four with a real shot at the title.

I would think this would have to compete with any of those wins in the late '70s early '80s. In terms of what this win means for our program, where we were and where we're headed. A&M wins that tournament game in 1980, and heads to the next round. The story ends there.

Last nights game will result in:
1) a tremendous amount of fan support being generated in just one night
2) a tremendous benchmark for recruiting, ie beating an in-state top-10 program on television, for the first time in 20+ years
3) a confidence level in the players that I haven't seen in the 15 or so years I've been watching Aggie basketball

Not to mention, it was the first Big12 conference win for the Aggies since 2003, it broke a 10-game losing streak to tu in College Station, tied us for the best start since the '50s; it was our first win in a conference home opener, only the 4th time in history we beat a top-10 team, the largest crowd in school history, and best of all it was a sign to all the naysayers that 11-0 isn't an abberation...we are for real.

Granted, I wasn't into Aggie basketball in 1980, but I can't see how this one isn't more meaningful for the program.

That's why you can't comprehend the difference.

No doubt that this is ONE of the biggest wins, but it's not THE biggest win.

We beat UT in Austin a few years back. Yes, AT Austin. It's funny how none of this kind of talk occurred at the time....why? Because we all knew it was a fluke. The reason we are all so excited isn't just because we beat UT, it's because we see a brand of basketball we feel strongly will take us into the top echelon of the Big 12. The ags need to build on the victory, unlike the last time we beat UT.
