DJ volume at Reed

Old man here.

MBB music volume is loud as hell in my seats in Sect. 122 Row C. I cannot carry on a conversation with the person next to me when the music is going. It really detracts from the enjoyment of the game. I see numerous fans with ear plugs (my wife uses them) and parents w/ young kids w/ hearing protection. I suspect that the volume in my seats reaches hearing damage levels, especially for kids. Overall it's a frustrating experience.

DJ pays little attention to yells and routinely drowns them out with music. Him screaming into the mic is especially over the top.

Music selection (hesitate to call some of it music) is crap for me but I can tolerate it at lower volumes.

I realize that the students probably like the music, but I also know that they would be happy with a little classic rock or C&W thrown in on a regular basis.

I'm hoping that the DJ's sound board will go up in smoke one of these nights.

We moved to new seats this year right below the new radio booth and everything is ear splitting...I've started wearing earplugs just to make it tolerable. It was never a problem in the 3 or 4 other areas we've sat in the past.

I think the music is fine but it's super cringy when he gets on the mic himself. He sounds like he's screaming most of the time. And I think he needs to respect the yells a little more....more than a cursory slide of the mid-range volume controls.

At no point will you hear a DJ at a college basketball game playing Credence Clearwater Revival or Brooks & Dunn, so you should probably give up on that request. And - believe it or not - most students would not be happy with the DJ playing Pink Floyd/Reba McEntire/Kenny Rogers/The Who. To be honest, most students probably don't know who any of those artists are.

I get that the noise level might be too much...but you cannot possibly expect a Bellamy Brothers song to enhance the game experience and get the students (the only fans in Reed who make any noise) fired up.

In section 122, and my Apple Watch noise warning goes off multiple times during the games. Haha. I can't hear anything but I get a nice tingle on my wrist.

My Apple Watch noise warning sometimes goes off when the grandkids are running around the house.

I have cussed the volume of the DJ at Kyle and at Reed. I'm fine with students enjoying the popular tunes / whatever you call it but just turn it down a bit. Play it during a rehearsal and walk around with a decibel meter to make sure you aren't destroying hearing. I might be wrong, but, I bet the decibel meter would max if someone actually checked at Kyle and at Reed.

I'm '79 and I'm good with whatever students want to hear but let's compromise on volume. Uniform design and color deviation don't bother me either. Maroon, black, all white, off white, pink, whatever is ok by me. If it attracts students to the games, I'm in. Students are the core to a great, active, and vocal crowd. Nothing can compare to a vocal student body.

The students should have the ability to dictate what they like / want. There's a ****load of students these days and they should be able to dictate what they like and don't like.

BTHO everybody.

Im not complaining about type of music, but the absolute lack of ANY pause, break, silence. (And the audio is too loud)

Do we have to be entertained within 1 second of a dead ball, video, announcement or fan game?

It would be nice to be able to tell my neighbors "hi" 10 minutes before the game or check in on their new job at half time, or discuss a bad call or strategy for a second during a video review.

Im old, but part of the game experience is building comradery with fellow season ticket holders. I feel like I've been in some kind of sensory overload experiment by the time I leave.

But, I dont have to be entertained every second of the day, I'm not afraid of having an inner thought, and im not addicted to tik tock, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Morons must have every second filled with some sort of stimulation.

Use a meter and walk around the facility. If you get any readings above 85 db, make the DJ turn it down.
We aren't disagreeing with the issue. I have a feeling the feed from the DJ is way above 85 db at Kyle and at Reed.

I have experienced the same thing in TCU's arena. Reasonable in one section, completely ridiculous in another. I imagine getting the acoustics balanced is difficult.

I'm an old guy and I turn off my hearing aids so they act as ear plugs. The volume of the DJ's panel is still painful and will ultimately drive me away from purchasing my season tickets in the future. He is over the top and mostly out of control with his volume and love of personally speaking into the microphone. His effort appears to dominate the game and the arena. At the last game he even continued the music after game play was resumed. Also the officials can't find an opportunity to speak to the crowd in order to explain call determinations because of the continuous PA noise.

PA volume cannot compensate for lack of crowd noise and shouldn't attempt to do so. Please, get that guy under control.

Sit in same area as OP. This area is especially loud. You feel the sound (uncomfortable) as much as you hear it. Dj has earphones on so probably doesn't affect him. Biggest complaint is when he gets lost in his own world and keeps playing while Yells are going on and drowns them out.

Has anybody brought the message of this thread to the athletic department? Sounds like a super valid complaint; take it to the top.

I'm okay with whatever the music is especially if the students obviously know the words and start singing and dancing with it. I'm not okay with the volume.

At the last game, my phone app hit a high of 116 decibel level when the DJ started yelling into the microphone. The music is typically in the mid to upper 90's. It's the DJ yelling that pushes it into the 100's and it's usually in the lower 110's. I've noticed a number of folks in my section now wear earplugs. That's not acceptable to me.

I have to agree with some of the comments here. I am a season ticket holder and the volume doesn't bother me as much as there is never a quiet moment. He fires up songs ever ball out of bounds and whistles. Also that he continues to play the music at high levels while refs are trying to say what the review are drives me crazy. They need to at least set up a kill switch for when the ref starts to talk it kills his music and mic.

This is definitely an acoustics issue versus an overall volume issue. Those of yall that sit in those sections 100% need to tell someone involved with the arena itself, because they are the ones that will be able to make those changes.

It's going to have to be about the position and direction of the speakers more so than just turning the music down. Honestly, what they should do is figure out the areas affected and figure out a way to put some sound dampening material up in those sections, if that's even possible.

The problem with just turning down the music is that the reduction needed for those sections to be manageable will make it relatively quiet in the other sections.

It's just a weird issue lots of indoor buildings can have if they aren't property designed and laid out with this stuff in mind.

Especially Reed Arena, which was build on the cheap in every way possible.

I agree it's too loud.

And, it seems like the DJ is more concerned with being the center of attention rather than just contributing to the game atmosphere.

My complaints won't get anything done so I made personal adjustments: I wear earplugs if I'm on the lower bowl or I sit at the bottom of the upper bowl ( which I'll argue at pre better seats if you want to see the press / plays develop.)
