Just had to leave the game with 10 minutes left because the music/dj noise was so loud it hurt. My ears are still ringing and hour later. Anybody know who the dj reports to or where I can fill a formal complaint. I've been going to games for years and never had it this bad
.

Where in the arena were you sitting? I do think it is way too loud in some specific areas.

We were there and commented that it wasn't all that bad and seemed much louder at other games. Overall, I think the DJ adds a good feature to the game atmosphere...especially on a night where we didn't play that well and the crowd was pretty blah. To me, it's nice to see A&M athletics FINALLY evolving into this century with game day and game operations things and making events appealing to younger Ags (read: future donors.)

The "music" is absolutely horrible. There is not three seconds of silence. It is impossible to talk to the guy next to you at any time.

Yeah I thought it was fine tonight but I was in the corner of the lower bowl where it seems to be at a good volume.

Towards the top of the lower bowl near midcourt though was absolutely ear splitting at one of the games.

I sit at mid court, aggie bench side, row M near the top of first deck.

If the students and players like it, then I like it. No...it's not my kind of music, but if it gets the players and the noise makers in the stands going, then I'm all for it. Blue blood teams like Duke, UConn, Michigan, Florida, Kentucky, and North Carolina don't need in-game gimmicks. We do. We're not going to win or have a rowdy home court advantage with a quiet, docile arena that only plays George Strait or Celine Dion music.

Yeah, in this area it's way too loud.

And we have officially imported the anti-DJ rant from the football forum to basketball. Awesome.
I resolve in 2026 to be more tolerant and respectful of trolls and emotionally fragile, overly pessimistic posters so they don’t run crying to the mods and have me banned for three days.

I think complaining about the music is one thing, but I sat near where this guy was sitting for a game and it is WAY too loud in that part of the arena. I dunno if they need to recalibrate the speaker array or what but I considered moving when I sat there. It's not as bad further down or further toward the end of the court.

There is no comparison between the Kyle Field DJ and the Reed DJ. The Kyle Field DJ makes an effort to coordinate with the crowd and not drown it out - unlike the Reed DJ whose sole aim is to be the center of attention.

The Reed DJ is out of control and detracts from what made the 12th Man great. He needs to dial it down and quit trying to be the star of show!

The Reed DJ is over the top. Constantly screaming in the microphone. He also has his finger on the volume knob so he can crank it up to max volume the instant the band stops playing, the PA announcer stops to take a breath, timeout is called, etc. He makes it impossible to carry on a conversation. He also drowns out the crowd and tries to take over.

The Simon and Garfunkel story at Rudder on Tuesday night was an option for a softer sound....

It's not hard to drown out the crowd at Reed. Part of the reason we need the DJ is because our basketball "crowds" are typically quiet and docile. We need all the help we can get. And again, the students and the players like it...so I like it.

The things that made the 12th Man great were packed houses, rowdy crowds, and deafening noise from the fans. We simply do not have that at Reed Arena. Heck...they trucked in 1,000 Corps folks tonight and it somehow made the atmosphere worse.

The atmosphere at Reed needs all the help it can get, whether it be from a DJ or whatever.

I disagree . Crowd was good tonight imo albeit about 1500 butts in seats light . Environment was best of the season excluding the Florida game imo and on par or better with the Mizzou game .

As far as DJ volumes are concerned OP should make his complaints in terms of too much volume in specific places in the arena . I have no doubt it's a legit complaint. Wasn't an issue in 104 row S but that doesn't mean it's not a problem in other parts of the arena. If it were me I'd bring insertable earplugs and use them if you need them but that's not to meant say it's not a correctable problem.

I'm Old Army to the max but I like the DJ and the energy he brings. I think he's just doing what he's been told to do and he does it well. He doesn't control all the speaker volumes.

The 1500 butts in seats light … that's a testament to the crap job the athletic department is doing promoting men's hoops. It's easily the 2nd most important sport in terms of the "front porch" of the University role of athletics . This was a critical game and the team has a legit shot at the tourney. There is no real excuse for all the empty seats especially when at least 1500 seats and probably closer to 2000 were taken by the Corps.

If Reed Arena is not full for Kentucky and tu.. should be a serious review of what the Athletic Department is doing to market these games ….but we (regular game attendees and bb board folks ) alreadt knew that.

Agree.... Whatever they're paying the DJ... it is too much. In addition to the over the top volume, so much of the time it was just plain cringe-worthy. Anyone over the age of 20 who actually likes it, must be a borderline ******.

Can we get a set-List for those of us who can't make it to home games? I want to know what songs!

I don't have a full set list but he seems to like Kendrick Lamar (TV Off was played tonight) and of course Mo Bamba is played at least once every game. I honestly don't know what people expect. They aren't going to play George Strait songs at sporting events.

I completely agree with this. I like the idea of having a DJ to drive some atmosphere, but think we are missing the mark. The Reed DJ does seem to think he is the star of the show and it is a bit annoying. He doesn't give the crowd a chance to be part of the atmosphere because he drowns them out. Like when he "lowers" the volume of the music during yells, etc. Wish they would take the microphone away, keep him off the court and set some parameters for this guy. He absolutely has the ability to enhance the atmosphere, but right now he is dominating it.

Not *****in about the type of music, just the volume! If you haven't been to Reed "recently" (2026), you should slide to the back row with your comments. There is absolutely no reason that the volume should be that loud. I'm not going to a rock concert, it's a basketball game. You shouldn't have to wear earplugs. You cannot talk to the person next to you except when the dj is off, which is the middle of plays. Just turn it down.

This is my biggest complaint. The one game we went to was that way. It should be an 'easy' fix.

I thought the music was fine where I was sitting. In fact, toward the end we had the crowd into it, the music pumping and then they threw it to Hullaballoo which kind of killed the vibe.

Don't get me wrong, I like Hullaballoo and appreciate their place in college basketball. But at that moment, the DJ matched the vibe of the game and the energy of the student section.

We haven't had a problem with the volume at Reed all season.

Everyone's hearing is different though.

Aside from the volume in certain parts of the arena which isn't really his fault, my only real complaint about the DJ is that sometimes he cues up hype up music right before we're about to inbound the ball or shoot a free throw.

But yeah last night I thought he absolutely killed it overall. For the crowd not being all that big it had some juice. Was ready to pop off a few times and then Ole Miss would answer, and then finally started to get crazy toward the end.

But we're really all talking about three things:

1) Volume: And I agree with the OP that this is a legit problem in certain areas of the arena. To me it's actually not even the music that's the worst part, it's the jumbotron videos with people talking. I almost died when Monaco started talking during the pregame show. I've sat all over the arena this season and it's not a problem everywhere, but it is very much a problem in some places.

2) Music selection/timing: I think this is mostly fine to good

3) All of the other stuff they ask the DJ to do: Some of the games are a tough watch, but I think he's good otherwise.

As someone who talks with the DJ a lot, I will say this. He does a great job; he understands the students aren't always loud, especially during timeouts. We all sit down and get on our phones. It's hard for students to get loud from a dead silence, but if there are already loud sounds, it's a lot quicker to get the students loud. Pregame, it can be quieter, but he does coordinate with Reed Rowdies (Mainly because they surround him), and he does take song requests from students. Like yesterday, I requested Pepas, and he found a time to play it. I think he does a great job

I like the changes they have made trying to improve the game atmosphere. I get the volume issues and I believe they will work it out. We had volume issues early on in new Kyle and were resolved over time. I like the DJ and think they will fine tune the presentation. In past seasons we would have a lot of the Hullabaloo Band playing old Chicago tunes that no one under 50 has ever heard. The students would look at their phones. Whatever we can do to keep the crowd engaged and make Reed a tough place for our opponents is a good thing.

The game wasn't until 6PM. They had plenty of time for dinner before tipoff.

They're trying to turn it into an NBA game style atmosphere. Maybe that's to be expected for certain groups of people that have the attention span of a gnat.
