It was a step up only considering he had quit being a coach at A&M 9 months early and had recruited no one.

And some things are always left unsaid. Unnecessary cheap shot at UMd. And will likely cost him long term. There will be no rise above his current level. I hope he can finally just enjoy coaching and stop worrying about the rest. Actually I don't care.

Completely revisionist. Turgeon turned down job offers, including NC State in that 9 month period. Not having players committed by May of the year before in a class was common. Jamal Branch and Jordan Green being committed so early in the prior class was an outlier.

He had a career 63% winning percentage. It's conservative to say that 13% of the overall schedule were non-conference cupcakes. In essence, he got ultra rich by winning a coin flip percentage of the games he ever coached in throughout his career.

Charmed life.

I don't really care about winning % elsewhere. Turge's career percentage at A&M was .708 and took A&M to the tournament all 4 seasons. No other coach at A&M has done that.

We have one off to a good start in that department.

Meh. He inherited the best roster in program history by far. Went 38-26 (59%) in conference over four years. He did a decent job.

Yes sir! And he's had to build things from scratch.

Kennedy was handed the best transition roster in A&M history. Turgeon was here 4 years, you dont magically maintain in the 3rd and 4th season just because you were handed a roster. What we saw happen in 2011-12 is proof that it doesnt even guarantee year ONE

I hope that he can somehow take over at Kansas when Self finally pulls the plug. Get it?! Pull the plug?

Agreed. And we lost law in that transition... Which changes everything.. Turge had to get sloan to transition to being the guy.

My favorite Turge game of all time was "the baptism" game.

Agree 100%, Bucky is legit and proved this past season he can coach. Can't wait for this season to see what he does with better overall talent in his system.

the win at mizzou in 09 or '10 was maybe turgeons most underrated. they choked it away and our streak over them continued. Turgeon absolutely owned mike anderson

Decent coach. Not very good at generating excitement for his programs. Perhaps his playing days spoiled him at KU because they do have built in excitement for hoops due to their winning history. No need for marketing as long as you win at a good clip.

In retrospect maybe his best path to getting the job he wanted would have been to stay at Wichita State and win big there . Might have happened. We'll never know.

It seemed like a lot of people were at games when Turgeon was coaching here…I even had season tickets back then

Honestly, I think he doesn't leave when he did if Tobi doesn't tragically pass away in 2010. Betweem him and Middleton, Turge could have parlayed them to a better job than Maryland.

We had a good roster coming back in 2011-12. Even with a new coach, the league's coaches picked us up there with Kansas as favorites for the Big 12 title before that season.

We really only lost BJ and Walkup, and we added Elston Turner who likely more than made up those losses by himself.
