• Buzz is good and consistent.
• Not a lot of choices for Maryland, especially with their messy athletic department
• They are not certain Buzz is a good fit in the Northeast nor a good fit for what Maryland needed
• Buzz has a reputation of only staying for 5-6 years
• The Marquette, Virginia Tech, and A&M athletic administrators were not sad to see him go. It seems he tends to get people tired.
• Buzz is used to rebuilding programs, so in this case, he should be ok figuring out how to rebuild Maryland since there will be no roster.
• What about A&M? Both think that Chris Beard will be a homerun. Texas guy (the woodlands), with family in the State but not sure if he will leave Oxford.

Maryland was disappointed with Turgeon; I doubt they'll be thrilled with Buzz.

Buzz is a decent coach so it's not a terrible hire, but Maryland sees themselves as a basketball blue blood (maybe they were in the 90-00s), and I don't think he takes them to the higher level that they want.

He has a high floor as a coach. Maryland is betting Buzz will have them respectable, but their fans see it as settling and not being willing to take a risk that could lead to a higher reward.

They did us a favor by taking him and his $16mm buyout away.

We are terrible at hiring coaches. Maryland is worse.

Considering the state their athletic dept is right now with no sitting AD, and the rumors of how messy their entire admin is, it's a strong hire. Buzz practically fell into their lap given how badly he wanted out of College Station.

Their fans who thought they could do better are delusional. Most are already spinning it saying he'll be good for them for 3 years as a stopgap, then they can make their true hire once the bleeding has stopped.

Buzz > whoever we end up hiring. Trev will likely repeat his baseball strategy and let our two remaining players pick the coach.

Buzz may be the worst coach in basketball. We made the NCAA three years in a row on resources and Aggie spirit alone.

If we take 6 years (or even 4) to get our program to where it is at the end of Buzz's term, I think that would be a big disappointment.

I agree. The life coach thing played well with A&M fans (myself included) but that isn't going to fly during an annual 4 or more game conference losing streak at a school that thinks it should be a 3-seed or higher every year. I was willing to put up with it because I liked the team of players he put together and how hard they played, but individual game results are going to matter wayyyy more at Maryland than they do here

This really seems like Maryland execs did not actually watch A&M games to see what they are getting. I guess they just saw a coach who seemed to get results (wins v losses) that exceeded the recruiting rankings.

If they had watched the games, then they would have seen the complete lack of both ball movement and player movement, which led to scoring droughts in almost every game. Although we did not have offensively dominant players, but we did have athletes this year. A solid offensive scheme gets players scoring opportunities. Getting Payne the ball, on average, about 18 feet from the basket is coaching malpractice.

Buzz is a good coach. Anyone remember how bad basketball usually was under Billy Kennedy (with the exception of 2 years). After Kennedy was finally fired, we all celebrated the hiring of Buzz. Buzz left us in a better shape than what Kennedy left.

Buzz being better than Kennedy doesn't make Buzz a good coach.

Buzz is a high floor low ceiling kind of hire. You're almost guaranteed a top 25ish team but pretty much certain to not be a top 10 team.

This isn't a win for Maryland OR Buzz. Buzz was looking for a reset where he didn't have as deep a hole to dig out of. His senior laden team was leaving...maybe recruits weren't giving us a good look because of rumor mill...whatever the next 3 years was going to be uphill for him at a time when booster and fans were giving him second thoughts. Maryland was the easy button where he had more time to work with and more pliable fans to pacify (at least temporarily). Maryland got a good but not elite coach

There isn't really a scenario in basketball where the team is in good shape when the coach leaves. You get a new coach you need a new roster.

i agree. I don't understand the point of maligning BK for no reason.

What Buzz left us is objectively worse. There is zero momentum and only Solo and Payne left (if they even stay).

Time will tell but the Buzz era will not be looked upon favorably after a few years IMO.

Maryland fans are mostly not happy. I went and viewed their forums. The overall consensus is that this is a "meh" hire. Nothing to get excited about.

Buzz bought himself some more runway. He was looking at rebuilding either way, and one way offered him more time and money. He chose that one.

Am I sure we deserve better than Buzz? Not really, not in BBall. but could we do better ? Sure. I agree with the above poster… Buzz gets you relevant consistently, but Buzz doesn't get you over the top.
