You guys are right, if we know in advance how each coach is going to do we should definitely hire the one that will do the best.
To answer the question in a vacuum no but buzz has really turned the program around from what it was with BK. Just missing post season success really
Yep. Hire him and hope it continues to improve. Because we're not getting anyone better than Buzz. Nobody is going to want to come to a third-rate basketball program that is the bronze medal of the big 3 men's sports and listen to fans complain no matter how good we do. I swear, some folks think we're Kansas and a destination job for every coach on the planet. Billy Clyde used us as a steppingstone. Mark Turgeon left us for where he really wanted to be. We could hire someone else who started to see success; then they'd get outta here for a better basketball job. Buzz actually wants to be here. Embrace it. Grass ain't always greener.
Which guy does the crystal ball say will win more than 2 tourney games in five seasons ? It's not six because there was no tourney one year. We'll see if the ball is a liar or not.
If I had such a magical Crystal Ball, I would ABSOLUTELY hire that coach and then make millions of dollars in sports gambling over the next 6 years. Back To The Future 2 style.

I'd probably ask if we're in a Final Four in the next decade or two. Just curious if A&M basketball ever get's to the elite level, even if it's just for a season.
This is the absolute worst question to ask it for me. If the answer is no then you'd never be able to truly enjoy a season because you knew it was going to end. Even if we made the Elite Eight you'd know we were going to lose.
If I had a crystal ball, I'd determine the best time to invest all my money in a coin/stock. Then I'd use that money to fire Buzz, hire Beard, and buy the best team.

We've made the tournament 3 straight times (should have been 4). Anyone who says that's not good enough is insane. Maybe I'm still beaten down by the BK era but making the tournament is still a big deal for me.
I would ask the final scores of next season's games and then after a few games of confirming my crystal ball is legit I would bet the max amount to eventually make millions and yet stay under the radar.bobinator said:

We have some of the most delusional and irrational fans in all of college sports. It is either win the natty or bring out the pitch forks and torches and burn it all down for yall. You think that we are owed championships because we have gone so long without winning any championships. Where does this entitlement come from? Buzz is a perfect fit for A&M and he is developing a culture perfect for A&M.
And yes, I also want A&M to win all of the championships. We are not the cool school you think we are, capable of attracting top talent on name alone. If I was a top player and saw all of the constant *****ing and moaning from all of you weirdos, then I definitely wouldn't want to play here.

I do think that grading thread shows the much more rational view that most of the regulars on here have.

The problem with all the "hire this guy" analyses is that Buzz met most, if not all, of the criteria you use as reasons to hire that guy. Just drop it and let it play out. Buzz has put good teams on the floor and will break through in the tournament. Our whip saw approach to hiring never yields dividends anyway.

Perhaps the NIL can help in that regard, [but I doubt it] because at the end of the day people like to talk about all the shortcomings of the program, but don't actually put their money where their mouth is.

Do you realize how down the program was when he got here? And his first two years don't count, period. You can whine and moan all you want, but hes had 4 opportunities to make the tournament, not 6.

No doubt - I'd use it for stocks and commodities markets.
Two tournament wins in six years does nothing for me. I'd rather take a chance of doing worse with a new coach than continue with Buzz's proven mediocrity. (As a bonus, I also wouldn't have to endure any more of his preacher shtick.)

I mean, I think it's more about how this is year 6 with a senior-laden roster. In theory, this is what Buzz has been building towards, this should be his best work.
And it's pretty disappointing final product in the end. I think people are right to be scratching their heads about Buzz, just as people were scratching their heads about Sumlin post-2016 collapse. This is as good as it gets?

Last year was turgeon level. This year and two years ago were better than the turgeon standard.
