Even the Mizzou bench loved it.
The fact that it was Bates is my favorite part
We had like three crazy plays like this. Solo had a clean one right after this one and then he had the one where he fouled the crap out of the guy that actually might have been my favorite play because it had that DAWG energy of like "you're not doing that on my court."
Also crazy when Andy throws the pass away at mid court with 1:01 left and Bates throws down a crazy left handed jam off a perfect lob to take the 64-63 lead. The place ERUPTS. 15-0 at home.bobinator said:

That last block you mention was my DAWG play of the game.
My favorite part of the Payne block is that he spent zero time celebrating and immediately started booking it the other way. No flex, no dance, no gestures, just get back and try to score.
I also like that this block went down as a rebound for Jace Carter. That's some good stat hawking right there by picking up the ball.
Would've liked to see Manny try and contest the Bates dunk better.
I like how almost the whole Mizz bench got to their feet, some with their mouths agape, as their guy wound up.

Great block but I wince thinking how easy it might be to badly jam or break a finger (or injure wrist) with that kind of violent & sudden hand on ball collision. A+ not only blocking it but also not getting hurt!
I would have never recovered from this wrist injury
You wouldn't have had to, you'd be dead and buried underneath the court from that dunk.

This is exactly why to can't worry about getting put on a poster. I love it when our guys challenge at the rim, nothing should be easy.

Manny was about to be posterized. So he didn't contest.
It was great seeing it live. I was behind the basket on the blocks and that place went from about to erupt to dead silent. Wish I could post the video my daughter took of the game winner. I was NOT quiet about it.
This play was a huge momentum swing. Had that dunk went down who knows what would have happened next. One of the best one-man defensive plays I've seen in a long time!

Payne's been a pretty good one on one defender all season but seems like our team defense has started to click for him the last couple of games and he's been a lot more effective in it.

Contrasted with the cheerleaders along the baseline. Stoic, with only slight head turns to follow the ball. Like they knew there would be nothing to celebrate. "Silly jumping boys, not with Mr. Payne in the house."

There is nothing better in basketball than a block dunk back to your own team.
