Halfway through conference play and your fightin Texas Aggies are currently in a great position. We are 13th in the NET, tied for 3rd in the conference, an average projection of a 3 seed. We are less than 3 weeks from March and 9 games away from the regular season concluding.
Tomorrow afternoon our Aggies will have a huge test on the road at Mizzou, who's put together a strong resume as well! They have road wins at Florida and Mississippi State! And are coming off a 4 point loss Wednesday at Tennessee. Meanwhile the Aggies are coming off a "bye" having not played a mid week game. So the burning question is… rusty or fresh?
Winning on the road is tough, but winning against a squad like Mizzou presents a litany of challenges. For those unaware, Mizzou is one of the top 3 point shooting teams in the country. They shoot 38% as a team. They take over 24 3's a game and leading their 3 point assault is #31 Caleb Grill who shoots just under 50% from 3 with over 100 attempts. #2 guard Tamar Bates leads them in scoring They do have some size, but they aren't dominant rebounding or blocking shots. They do have a 7 foot center and a 6'9 forward. So we'll have to be aggressive on the boards.
For us, we are all aware of Buzz's end of season runs. Hopefully we are in line for one of those runs today. However, we have 4 of the next 5 at home. This is the time of year where we hope our offense can get clicking. A good sign will be that Soloman Washington will be available after missing the last two contests. We will need his defense and for him to stay out of foul trouble. Mizzou isnt know for its defense, so hopefully we'll do a better job of scoring. We can't go on scoring droughts due to Mizzou's ability to score fast and drain 3's. So hopefully we can slow the game down and earn some baskets.
With 9 games left every game is magnified, however, we have room for error thanks to a great start. Hopefully we can win more than half of our next 9 and give us a 4 seed at the very worst. But we can easily fight for a 3 and a great run of wins can get us a 2. On the road against Mizzou will be tough, but it's one that is possible and can really open doors for a great end of season run!! Let's close out on some 3's, slow the game down, make some shots and get to the line and BTHO Mizzou!
