It's not nothing. People hone in on the long outlier trips, but its the schools where every trip is a long trip that are the problem. Like SMU, that schedule can't be easy.

Current upcoming situation, Rutgers making a road trip to Washington and Oregon. Total travel days for that 2 game road trip - 6 days.
And that's the only time during the season they had an extended road trip. One time.

Guess what- for March Madness, if you last, you're going to going to be on a "6 day extended road trip", so you want your guys to be ready.

How many days did we spend on the road for the Vegas tourney, or the Bahamas, or any of those things?

It's laughable to think that one trip in the whole year is going to drive anything in this business.
UCLA Coach Goes Off On New Big Ten Travel Schedule | OutKick

Mick Cronin appears to be one PAC-12 forced to Big-10 coach who hates the Big-10 travel schedules. Of course, he's been exceptionally moody about lots of things this season.

He seems to not like how many times he's had to see the Statue of Liberty while landing in a flight from L.A.

Mick is about one bad interview question away from completely going ballistic.

Seems like he already went ballistic in that one press conference where he threw all his players and even his assistant coaches under the bus.

East ish.

I mean, I45/US75 is kinda the dividing line

V.A. is firmly North Texas. if you're that far north, you at LEAST have to be east of Paris-Sulphur Sorings line to be East Texas.

He's definitely capable of much more.

Unfortunately for us, Buzz would make a lot of sense going to IU. Whole program needs an overhaul. Also imagine he would have a little more recruiting leverage than he has here. Hope they go in another direction!

Yeah I was gonna say I think Mike is leaning more towards the literal definition.

Buzz Williams could do a fine job at IU. Just as good as he could do at A&M or Virginia Tech or lots of places. Its not super clear that it's actually enough not to get fired.

IU needs someone that can leverage the history and bring not only competence but bring players there. NBA draft picks and All BIG players, All Americans.

I can see them wanting Buzz a lot, not for who Buzz is but for wanting to believe that Buzz is some kind of Bob Knight reincarnation. A reincarnation not of the actual Bob Knight but Bob Knight as an Indiana fairy tale of sportsmanship, leadership…Tegrity! or whatever.

Buzz would kill it at a legit Blue Blood, the type that recruits itself or even a marketing powerhouse like Oregon or Michigan, but Indiana isnt really that nor a true blue blood. Not really. They are a blue blood like Nevraska football is one. It would only be marginally different than the jobs he's already had, and in return for the eventual good results they will want to fire him.

IU fans seem like the types that would only want excellent shooters who can fill the bucket from 3 and the free throw line. Although successful, ugly basketball may not fit. Syracuse would be a different story.

This is a better fit culturally than BCG going to Kentucky. Buzz needs a school that is fine with an ugly but hard nosed brand of basketball. IU is probably an ok fit considering they are hungry. We are an ideal cultural fit.

I imagine they want someone as close to Matt Painter as humanly possible.

If you read the article I posted earlier, Buzz does not really care for sky high expectations, because those get you fired. He also prefers to be at a football school, because of the funding it brings into the athletic department. Our fan base will get excited and back the team to an extent, but really, the expectations aren't going to grow to an insane level in basketball. People just stop watching hoops if things go south - and basketball coaches don't experience near the same level of noise that the football or even baseball coaches deal with here. We are also in Texas, I'm just assuming that one matters.

Seems like a perfect destination for Buzz.

They could have had it, but they sat on their hands and let him go to Michigan.

Probably, many people like me has been trying to "read between the lines" a bit too much about IU interest for Buzz. The latest Indy star article by Doyle is now pumping the profile of Mick Cronin (UCLA) who has been complaining (whining?) a bit too much about traveling for his team. So perhaps, just like many others, I have been getting hooked by articles like this where the author is not doing anything different than what we do here in this forum (posting our thoughts... Wishes... Complains etc).

I think reading between the lines with the Indy Star is the way to go on this actually. They're going to have the best read on it. Probably more Osterman than Doyle for actual news though.

I think the scene right now is Doyle wants Buzz, but that's not what he's hearing is happening from Indiana folks.

Cronin would make a lot of sense here actually but I'm not sure I'm buying it. Reports are he has an absolutely massive buyout at UCLA.

Floating Cronin as a candidate does not make much sense besides just being an opinion

This is his buyout schedule:

March 31, 2023: $24 million
March 31, 2024: $20 million
March 31, 2025: $16 million
March 31, 2026: $10 million
March 31, 2027: $6 million
March 31, 2028: $2 million

Btw, as of last year Buzz buyout was not great either at 19 million (according to USA today). So either Indiana is thinking about breaking the bank for what is being referred as "b list" names. I really think that Dusty may (Michigan) is the way they will go since he is an alumn and his buyout is quite low at close to 6-7 million.

"If Dusty May leaves the University of Michigan after the 2024-2025 season, he would have a buyout of $5 million plus a $1.513 million signing bonus. This buyout would be paid to the school that hires him."

It may in in the Eastern half of the state, but most people wouldn't call north of Dallas in East Texas. That would be consider North Central Texas.

Most people in East Texas consider East Texas is basically the Pineywoods from Red River county down to about Crockett in Houston County to Harris county and east to the LA border.

The Buzz buyout is if we want to fire him, I doubt it's very high if he gets hired away. Cronin's is supposedly the same amount either way.

Gotta remember there's two kinds of buyouts, the one on the USA Today database is the school buyout if they want to fire him.

The buyout of another school wants to hire them is why nobody is floating Oats or Pearl for these jobs. They have absolutely massive buyouts.

It's all relative. My in-laws from Tyler think west Texas starts when you get past Fort Worth. Having grown up in Fort Worth I think it starts on the other side of Abilene.

I'm on team bus Buzz, but, if he is considering leaving this is a prime year because we lose a lot of the team. Here or there next season is a restart.

Correct answer is West Texas is West of Ft Worth. East Texas starts 20 miles east of the Bucee's between I20 and Hwy 80.

Perhaps, I am being too optimistic but bringing Payne + Solo + redshirt freshman with 1 year under Buzz (Ratowski +Turkson + Mills + Mcmerdott) and counting on a couple of guard transfers... Perhaps enough to be in the middle of the pack next year. I think the biggest headache in terms of playing was losing Brice Lindsay who was supposed to be Taylor's replacement.

I think Buzz will stay and rebuild! Payne and Solo good to build around!
He has some good recruits. He has proven he can get good portal platyers!

4.4 million contract. under contract thru 2028. stay in home state of Texas. Not drag your family back around the Country

Been a long time since Indiana basketball has been all that relevant.
I will submit there is more high school talent in Texas. Buzz has Manny, Wade and Phelps
from the Dallas area. Hefner from Nederland.
Baylor, tceh and coogs all very successful in basketball in recent years. No need to go to IU
for talent. Their basketball arena old and nothing special. They compete with Purdue, Butler and ND
for talent in their own state. Plus IU still looking for another Bobby Knight to be satisfied. Not going to happen!
