I just have to say that and-one drive at the end of the game was a thing of beauty and did a whole lot imo to ice the game off. His performance at the line was excellent as well.

He had his bad moments, but he also had some critical positives.

I think Wade is just like Stella.

He's just waiting to get his groove back.

John Stockton is in the Hall of Fame because he made the easy pass. He never tried to be fancy or be a hero.

That is what a point guard should be. Smart, unselfish and make the easy pass at the right time. To many times when we have lead he tries to be a hero instead of running the offense for the best shot.

It's no coincidence that we have lost so many leads of the course of this year. The inconstancy that pundits say about us is how the offense plays sometimes. It looks undisciplined. Its like a combination of isolation and motion.

This is a oretty dated view of lead guard/PG play in the modern era, but even if you subscribe to that view, this is a very strange game to critique Wade on. If anything he was too deferential in this game, too unselfish, and should be been looking more for his own offense.

But I reject the general premise entirely that it's "selfish" or "hero ball" for the best scorer on the team to look for his own shot instead of routinely passing the ball to lesser offensive players only to have them fail to convert.

I would have much rather seen Wade look for his own shot 3-4 more times last night instead of passing it off to the brick masons. Involve your teammates, sure, but not at the expense of winning. We would have been more likely to ice that game sooner if Wade had been less "unselfish."

Look at all these easy, fundamental two handed chest passes

I dont think a pull up 30 footer 10 sec into the shot clock up 10 in the game is a good shot. Maybe you do but I dont

I mean yeah, Wade is nothing like the greatest assist man in NBA history who played in a different era and had a different role on his NBA team.

What are we talking about here?

Common theme on the thread is he has to make better decisions. Maybe he's still not 100% and he's overthinking when it comes to being too unselfish and getting pass happy. Bottom line is, if this team can clean up some of the sloppy turnovers and hit their free throws, they can make a deep run!

I'm still not convinced he fouled Goodine on that three point shot, but even if he did, if he doesn't come out hard then we're killing him for Goodine getting another open look.
If it looks like a foul then it is a foul. And not to mention that they were getting so many charge calls, you'd think they were getting socks too.

Just so we're comparing apples to oranges here: the NCAA introduced the 45 second shot clock for the 1985-86 season. John Stockton was a rookie for the Utah Jazz in 1984.

Thus...

The game was way different than it is today because back then every possession was treasured while today's game is about maximizing the amount of possessions you have.

Did you notice in the closing minutes how Taylor was calling for the ball out at the 3 point line and Phelps kept ignoring him, and driving to the basket?

Phelps is a complete player and understands the game completely. Trust him 10x more than Taylor in the closing minutes.

Taylor is more of a liability in tight moments and even Buzz might be seeing it.

Well he did commit the foul, and throw one of the passes away, using only a single hand.

not only did he try to pass it with a push pass at a critical moment, HE TRIED TO PASS IT RIGHT THROUGH THELANE, THROUGH 4 DEFENDERS, to the opposite side.

Simething every 8th grader on up knows is taboo.

And the 3 point foul on a closeout near the end?
just... wow!

Defend him all you want, but the OP is NOT offbase. Wade can play great at times, and is a great asset at times, but he is also a big potential liability at critical times.

He has demonstrated that for 3 years.
