Hard to follow Buzz interviews when he referrnces his players by nickname.
Could one of you youngs make a list of real names vs nicknames fir us olds?

I am hoping this thread survives long enough for someone to explain the Boots nickname.

Washington already has a name, but if he didn't, it should be one of those multi-armed Hindu gods because that what he looks like when playing defense.

Although it looks like Mills is included, I think that the fish, McDermott, (C-Mac) already having a nickname PLUS more real playing time than mist others outside of our "usual" rotation is a pretty good sign for him...

This is nitpicky, but I find Buzz doing this in national media interviews to be a disservice to the athlete. Using nicknames in practice, games, and even A&M focused (texags interviews, weekly radio show) media is fine.

But to get on ESPN and start touting how mentally tough a player is, how they are clutch, how hard they work, what great teammates they are and you are using a name no one outside of A&M can even relate to a person (ie potential scout), that could actually affect the player. He loves to publicly love on his players, and that is awesome, but how would someone outside A&M know who you are talking about? It took me longer than I care to admit to figure out Gochi and I follow the program.

It's nitpicky. I nitpick.

That pantheon is way too complicated and dark to use for acting nickname. Plus folks from the subcontinent name their kids after them already. At least until the Taliban threatens to kill them…

I think it matters more how the team views the players than what the national media views the players. If the players play well, the national media will know who they are.

It's a good point, I shouldn't imply scouts can't figure out who is who and what they are capable of. I just know Buzz's intent is to pump up and promote his players and when using nicknames those not following the program closely will not know who he is pumping up. It really doesn't have an impact beyond limiting, in my opinion, what Buzz is trying to do which is praise his players.

Would like to see him use both sets of names in different settings or while on national interviews. Real names are good for
family exposures as well.
