Buzz can solve the fan problem by keeping his team in the Top 25.
We've been in the top 25 all season and we still had a minimal number of fans at the game in Ft. Worth.
He's talking about ALL the time, not just this season. But you pretty much know that.
We would have an equally supportive fanbase if we'd handled the business side differently back when BCG was here.
Dollar Bill Byrne jacked up ticket/season ticket prices hugely when the program started to take off. Hade he only made modest price increases, we could have sold a LOT more tickets/season tickets. Getting the non students to buy tickets and fill the stands with consistency is how you get people emotionally bought in to a winning program. You also have to have creative marketing for tickets for people coming in from Dallas/SA/Austin, and Houston. You want folks to make the drive because they can't stand the thought of missing the big game.
After a few years, this large group of loyal people start to push things like Reed renovation/expansion, they turn up the intensity for visting top rated programs, and these things begin to affect your recruiting results. Five or 6 years later you look up one day and say 'Holy Crap, I think we're starting to become a basketball school!'
It's a step by step process for a place like A&M. I hope Trev can remember this as Buzz starts to incrementally raise our cache as a Hoops program. Keep increasing our competitiveness, and keep doing all you can to get butts in seats at EVERY game, home and away.
