No idea how there was upside here.

I think there's a lot of upside from a team building standpoint, but it was definitely risky. Some of us mentioned it this summer, but a good team opening with a true road game is RARE.

Of 18 top 25 games last night, only two ranked teams played on the road, us and Baylor, and their game was at Gonzaga which is obviously different than playing at UCF.

No other top 25 team plays a road game at an unranked team until Saturday when Tennessee goes to Louisville. After that there's not another one until Nov. 15 when Florida goes to Florida State.

It was a smart idea. Its upside only.

If we won, they're likely in the top 75 just by playing in the Big 12.

We lost; oh well quad 1 loss in game 1.

Good scheduling decision. Accumulating garbage high win totals means nothing. The committee has made that clear.

It's a challenge nonetheless and you could say it was smart because of how the committee has chosen to reward teams with a good non-conference slate, however, it most applies to teams on the bubble.

I'm hoping we aren't one of those teams [on the bubble] with a lot of guys back from last year which is why the results were disappointing.

And it will only make sense if UCF actually has a good season; I think they're a decent team from what I saw, but there's still a lot of basketball to play.

I once heard a coach say never schedule a road game with a program that is "beneath" you.

Now A&M is "beneath" a lot of programs, but certainly not UCF.

That had to be from the pre-quad days. Very outdated thinking for how the committee measures teams now.
