FWIW Hefner was a team best +9 tonight. Wilcher and Manny were both -7.

Wow. And we still lost? Astonishing.

I get that. And I edited my post because I re-read Luke's.

I just think we shouldn't overreact to one game where we don't have the guy we brought in to be a key piece of the offense.

I think it's pretty obvious that Wilcher was brought in to upgrade Hefner's minutes on both ends of the floor, but Buzz might've thought CJ is better off the bench and rolled with someone he's started before on the road.

If you'd care to expand your embarrassment, swing on over to the women's page. They're playing just as poorly as the men did.

It's the game score when a player is in the game. Like when Hefner was in we outscored them by 9.

Like Prop said the stat is mostly meaningless in one game, I just thought it was funny since people were killing Hefner.

At this point the Hefner thing is what it is, don't see the point in being upset about it.

Keep in mind Georgia, picked to finish 12th in the SEC, just put up 107 on this team. Is the season over, no. But this was an extremely poorly coached game and you have to scratch your head at how unprepared and out of shape everyone looks right now. Payne, Coleman and Andy looked good. That is it. Lots of sluggishness, poor body language and poor decisions by everyone else. This was an absolutely inexcusable loss.

I think I've been told I'm over-reacting to Hefner's lack of production every November/December for 3 years now.

He'll finish playing 5 years getting double-digit minutes on average putting up sub-replacement level stats.

Is he the biggest problem? Absolutely not. But sick of some people dancing around the fact that Buzz has purposely not upgraded the roster spot despite having plenty of opportunities to do so.

These losses are the kind of crap losses that we end up with a crap ncaa seed, ****ty first round matchup, or on the bubble.

It's year six of buzz ball and he still hasn't happened across the basketball fundamentals for dummies book during book club.

If the rotation still looks like this in conference play I'll join you in disappointment.

I think Carter was supposed to be that guy last year but took a while to get going, combined with Manny not taking the next step until late.

Wilcher looks like that guy this year in my mind.

I do think it's telling that Manny didn't start either the exhibition or this game. Wondering if he had a rough camp.
Proposition Joe

I seriously have my doubts Hefner's minutes are suddenly going to nosedive, but even if that does become the case -- why would you not want a bigger threat at your disposal for when you are forced to play them (which has seemingly happened every single season)?

The kid doesn't hit free throws at a high clip. He doesn't hit threes at a high clip. He doesn't play good defense. He often makes very boneheaded decisions. He's not a "clutch" guy. It ain't small sample size anymore, its 4+ years of data.

So we're basically just accepting that Buzz has/had chances to upgrade this spot on the roster and has chosen not to and many are just fine with that because "it's probably not going to be the difference maker in the season".

That tells me we're simply not that serious about winning. Stupid hill to do die on? Possibly. But if our football coach was running a "high character" kid out there every weekend for 10 plays a game then this place would be on fire.

A quad one losses isnt going to drop our seed. Having multiple quad 4s will

A quad one win can absolutely bump your seed up.

It's not season-ending, far from it. But it's silly to act like it doesn't really matter that much.

I'll tell you one thing - we're going to have yet another year where people are complaining about lack of people in the stands -- and Buzz inability to show anything early contributes greatly to that.

I seemingly have to remind you this every year - it's a message forum, people discuss different topics, not just the ones you deem discussion worthy.

(and to keep with my annual tradition - "that may work on the Kansas boards where the basketball intelligence is far superior, but that doesn't mean it will work here.")

I think the "whining" on the board is pretty simple:

We are ranked, they are not.
We were favored to win that game, yet we lost.
We were ahead late, and were outplayed down the stretch.

Yes we all know it's a long season and a lot of ball left to be played, but people have a right to complain. Some of yall are so self-righteous it's ridiculous.

I mean my answer is that yes, most of us are just accepting it because what else are we gonna do?

Just because we don't post about it every game doesn't mean people disagree. It's not like there's legions of Hefner fans defending his minutes on here.

I doubt this will end up being a Quad 1 loss. UCF will finish closer to the bottom of the Big 12 than the top. They still have to play FAU, Wisconsin, and either Pitt or LSU in non-conference play, then a B12 schedule that includes road trips to Tech, Arizona, Arizona State, Iowa State, Kansas, Baylor, Colorado, oSu, TCU, and WVU.

I'll be willing to wager UCF finishes the regular season no better than 17-14 overall and 7-11 in conference play.

UCF has been in the top 75 the last two years with basically that same record (17-14). If they do that again, it's a q1 loss.

No reason to think they won't do that same thing again. That's probably the only reason why we scheduled this game.

My opinion: #3, #10, and Wade should be your 1, 2, and 3 right now with Manny first off the bench, Jace second, and Hefner reserved for injury or foul trouble or blowouts.

21, Solo, Andy, and Henry should be rotating the 4 and 5 and occasionally the 3 if you want/need to go big.

Which is the type of schedule for a 17-14 team to finish in the top 75 in NET. We went into the SEC tourney at 18-13 last year and easily eclipsed that number.

In the Big 12, that's easily a top 75 resume. Like easily

That would probably put them just out of the tournament. UCF is probably gonna be mid, but losing to a mid Big 12 on their home court is no big deal.

Obviously not ideal, but this isn't even in the same league with some of our truly bad losses in recent years.

Probably so, but I also think I'm being generous when I say 17-14 (7-11). I think they could be 15-16 (5-13).

Agreed, but my hope in year 6 of the Buzz era would be for us to win more games like tonight than we lose…but clearly we're not there yet. And I question whether or not we ever will be under Buzz.

Buzz does things his way. He generally hasn't played fan service games. He treats loyal players with loyalty. He has same structure as Jimbo's contract unless the extension significantly changed that in out years.

I'm not suggesting this is fun. But I think choosing to be miserable about it changes nothing.

Again, it's a message forum. Nothing you post on here is going to impact a single thing on the court... So by that logic we may as well not talk about anything.

Regarding posting about it every game - I rarely comment on Hefner unless it's a close loss where his minutes might have meant something. He's a below replacement level player that got 10ish minutes and we just lost by 3.

Yes, there's nothing we can do about it. And yes, there are a million things that we could have done differently to pull the win out. But if we lost by a bucket and a below replacement level player got 10 minutes... well it means had Buzz gone out and upgraded the roster spot even a little, we may not have lost that game.

I'd make the same hire 10 times out of 10, but it's very clear now he's simply not willing to do everything it takes to be a national contender. For all the hate that Turgeon and Kennedy got, I don't think you could say the same about them.

Bottom line it does matter but we love being 7-10 seed not 3-6. If you are a good team you win this game.
