I was hoping Manny would become Q, part 2 as the athleticism for both made them so electric. If he can have a senior season like Q, I would be ecstatic.
im excited to see what he looks like this year!!! I hope you're right!

Sometimes basketball is complicated, like when we're talking matchups and rotations with this group of players, but sometimes it's really simple, and the difference between Manny being okay-to-pretty-good and him taking a big leap as a Q-like player is his shooting.

He's different from our other players in that when he does shoot it, it goes in a decent clip, but it takes him FOREVER to get that shot off. It makes him easier to guard because defenders don't need to crowd him at all.

If he could speed that thing up a little bit to where defenders have to stay close to him on the wing it would make his driving ability even that much better.

But yeah, his free throw shooting was a problem last year, though I'm (perhaps foolishly) optimistic that some of that was a sample size problem. He was a lot better late in the year except the first Ole Miss game. Not good really, but better than horrible.

Buzz doesn't have a JUCO kid on the team this year, huh? He usually does.

Let's hope he relinquishes the whirling dervish role, doesn't fall down as much, and has learned to shoot FTs

I think I'd push back on Manny being "small" but he's definitely faster than the other two. Carter and Hefner are both listed at 6-6 compared to Manny's 6-4 but I think I'd argue he plays bigger than both of him because he's a much better athlete. I actually wondered at times last season if Manny should play the four in certain situations. He can shoot decently well from the high post.

But Manny's big problem a lot of the times is he's an absolutely terrible passer off the bounce. He's going to have to do better at that this year if he's going to play 20+ minutes for a full season because opponents are going to adjust to how he drives the ball.

I do think if Buzz had it to do over he'd probably let Manny loose a little earlier in the season and just see what happens. I think he probably underestimated how much better the charge rule change would make his driving ability.
Yeah I was speaking more along the three guard lineup of boots, 4, and MO. That can work some games but, wouldn't be an ingredient for a post season run.

MO is a tweener not in terms of size but, in terms of skillset. Not a passer to be a PG and not a shooter to be a SG. With that being said he can still be very good in the right role and green light.

Solo needs to fix his shot otherwise he's a better Ray Turner.

Solo needs to get out of his own head. He seems to dwell on the last shot he missed, or the foul he got called on , or the goal tending he committed.

He plays with either extreme joy or complete frustration. Hope he can anchor on the former and forget the latter.

This is for The Players Era Tournament over Thanksgiving. They are crossing over the brackets at the end of the tournament so if A&M and Alabama both finish 2-0 on their own side of the bracket, they'll meet up in the Championship.

I don't understand this. Did someone drop out or what is the possible reasoning here?

One reason this is so bizarre is the (projected) two best teams in this deal are in the same pod.

Potential huge break for us for a couple of reasons though. We replace the worst team in our pod (SDSU) with either a beatable team from a major conference (Rutgers/Notre Dame) or one of the best teams in college basketball (Houston/Alabama.)

Could also end up in a time slot that isn't opposite the football game.

Also, since it is now a single team event, doesn't that mean we can't play in the same tourney next year? I thought we already committed to playing in this next season as well.

Could be I don't understand the rules on that though.

They apparently got approval on the multi-year thing from the NCAA.

So, we could play Houston or Alabama twice this year?

That Houston/Alabama game is going to be a good game.

Well we don't really play Houston, that one is just an exhibition, but yes on Alabama. It's the same with Rutgers and Oregon.

Seems like we have one of these every year, in fact we even did one with HCU (then HBU) in the '22 season. I don't know that I've heard a specific question and answer about it but I can guess a few things, we get to practice an early home game routine before it's a big game (like Arkansas on 2/15, could be easier on the visiting team getting home (possible they even drive in day-of and don't get hotels?).

Though we lost one of these games to Wofford.

I remember Buzz saying he liked the early start because the guys would be flying home for their Christmas break after the game and they get an extra night at home with there families

I wondered about that too. Not sure how long our guys get for a christmas break.

Don't they usually have a practice on Christmas night ? It's probably never long enough. Just 3 or 4 days.

I remember that Wofford loss 3-4 years back maybe; Wofford was an NCAA team the year before but we really looked dumb losing to them. Not saying that will happen here but, oh well. Maybe that will be one of those $2.00 games with a free drink for everybody, except for those of us that payed for that with our season ticket pkg.
