Kermit Davis was conference coach of the year in the SEC, Ole Miss fired him a few years later.
Jerry Stackhouse was conference coach of the year last year in the SEC, there's a decent chance he's fired this year.
The award can be a representation of a great season. It can also be the equivalent of a "most improved" award (and we all know who got those in little league). It can also simply be a popularity contest when it comes to AP. When it comes to evaluating a coach, it means nothing outside of the one year.
The posters who constantly tout those awards, and things like what his conference record in cherry-picked subsets of his career here (the same posters who want to just give a mulligan to an entire year) are the posters that simply do not want to look at the production as a whole.
