It would be nice to get an unlikely win this game, because if we did you can pretty much sharpie us in the NCAA Tournament Field, which would be amusing for how many "Buzz wont make the tournament!" posts we're still getting.

Winning against Bama would be a bigger shock that losing at pitiful Vandy.
Shoot anywhere near how well we have been the past 2 games and we will be close under 2 mins

No sharpie until we hit 10 conference wins. Winning tomorrow simply makes the path easier. 9 conference wins means we are sweating. This team has shown that it can play up to any level and down to any level against conference opponents.JJxvi said:

We won't, but if we did win at Alabama, there is no chance in hell that we miss the NCAA Tournament. There is no chance we dont get in at 9-9 after that, and the idea that "ooooooo, oooooh, I know A&M is 7-5 in conference with multiple huge wins, but you know they can looooose to annnnnybody, so they might go 1-5 in their last six...." is a moronic mentality.
We are 6-3 in our last 9 games and lost those three games by a combined 5 total points. The idea that we're going to lose a bunch of game in a row is just your own fear. We may have a little dip here, due to the schedule upcoming combined with the bad game at Vanderbilt, sure. I look forward to getting past all of the crybabies that are sure to show up over the next 2 weeks.

The school everyone needs to root for is Iowa St. If Iowa St wins the BIGXII it will be one of the better non conference wins for the schools competing for the 5-10 seeds in the NCAA tournament.

Whether or not they win the Big 12 is irrelevant, they just need to keep winning. If they finish a game ahead, tied, or a game behind that doesn't make any difference.

A non conference win over a Conference Champion rings different than that same win over a 2nd or 3rd place team.
If that's true, which I don't think it is but let's just say it is, then we probably want Iowa State and Houston to end up tied for the Big 12 Championship. If we're going to have one win and one narrow loss to Big 12 teams, they might as well be co-champions right?
Yeah there's a chance against Alabama:
if they shoot poorly from the 3 point line. They attempt the most in the SEC.
if they don't go to the free throw line. They have the best FT in the league.
if they turn the ball over a lot. They're 4th in the league at approx 12 to's/game
Sure there's a chance, but I wouldn't bet on it. Given how the games have gone, I'm hoping for a nail biter to the end.

They attempt the most and they make the most. This is an elite three point shooting team and they play very fast. We're going to have to be good on the defensive glass which we're not always good at.
I see two paths to victory for us:
1 - Their defense slips and we get to the basket. Because they're so good on offense, there's been games where their defense slips because they just sort of assume the other team will eventually stop scoring. We can't get into a three point contest with them, but if they're either off their shooting a bit or taking more twos than threes then maybe Wade and Boots can attack the basket and get us some easy ones and maybe get fouled. But we can't just start settling for threes because they're making threes. We need to survive their runs and just keep trying to get easy baskets. Make them defend for the whole shot clock.
2 - We make this game absolutely hideous. An 11 AM tip helps with this a bit, but maybe we can break this game up and just annoy the hell out of them. Alabama wants to play pretty basketball, maybe we can frustrate them and keep it close and then pull something out late.
I think this matchup is about as worst-case-scenario for us as it gets. They're obviously good, but just from a matchup standpoint Alabama is tall, they're fast, and they have like six shooters better than anyone we have except Wade.
We could get absolutely annihilated in this game and it wouldn't change my perception of our team.

One thing to note is that Alabama hasn't played in a week. Not sure if that favors them or us.
Hoping they also don't like the early start - and after that week off show up cold to end up with their worst 3 point shooting game of the season.
Since we just played Vandy (who really did play an excellent game against us) AND Vandy gave Bama a heckuva game in early January - I went back and looked to see what the Commodores did to keep up with the Tide (they ended up losing 78-75).
Turns out that Bama shot the three-pointer well - 12/30 for 40% compared to Vandy's 7/26 for 27% - and I could imagine a similar scenario for us tomorrow (though would love to shoot it more like we did against Tennessee).
HOWEVER Vandy did to Bama what they did to us - they forced 16 turnovers while taking care of the ball themselves (8 turnovers) - including 10 steals for Vandy versus 5 for Bama - and they beat Bama on the offensive boards 11-9 - resulting in 12 more shots for Vandy than Bama got - though both teams ended up making the same number of baskets at 26 (Bama obviously with more threes - which was the difference in the final score).
If we get back to taking care of the ball and dominate on the glass - I could imagine the Ags doing the same - getting at least ten more shot opportunities than Bama. If we could couple that with getting back to our standard formula of beating the other team to the bonus (and double bonus) each half and get to the line a bunch (and MAKE them at the same rate we did against Vandy) then we might have a chance!

It would be EXACTLY like this team and Buzz to win this game. Don't know if they will, but it wouldn't surprise me in the LEAST. And I mean that. It would greatly please me, but no surprise.

Exactly. This team could do anything from beat the best team in conference to lose to the worst team in conference on any given day. Performance swings wildly from half to half even.
