Well what are you saying now? I was chastised for questioning whether you had actual info or were talking out of your ass but I'm curious what "shouldn't be long" means to you because based on your post I expected it to be cleared up by now.

Mikey has been a knowledgeable poster in this forum for many years. Take him at his word. He's not shy about posting when he has something to say and when he has time to post. I'm sure he will soon post again.

It honestly hasn't been long since he posted that. And he also never said Marble would be back soon, just that it would play out soon.

It's been two full weeks since he posted that. That's outside of "shouldn't be long" in my mind. And nothing has played out soon so that distinction really doesn't matter.

When talking about a season that is long and conference play doesn't start until 2024, I also don't think 2 weeks has been that long. I didn't see that and think oh we will know before the season starts. When you are talking university process I figured maybe by early December.

Much like Hop's comment about the situation, it's hard to discern whether it was a "I know what it is, it shouldn't keep him out long" or "I'm not sure what it is but I can't imagine it will be long before we know".

I know it all seems like mincing words a bit, but end of the day this is a big time player on one of the most highly touted teams we've had in 40 years so it's not surprising when you're seeing a lot of "caddyshack well we're waiting meme".

I really expected someone with a camera to contact Marble and ask him to his face by now.
Wrong again, but maybe it isn't that important.

Like a TV station? You think he's just going to open up and be like yeah here is what is happening. Marble has been told don't talk about this to anyone as they would with any student athlete.

Yeah, I agree that stud athletes are generally better off not getting sucked into conversations that might be edited in compromising ways.
Still, this "whatever it was" certainly happened more than two weeks ago, so I get the impression that even if the reporters that depend on A&M sports have been told to say nothing (and maybe told not to ask) it would have leaked out to me by now if I was at a higher level in Aggiedom.

It has been 9 business days since that post. And if you read for example the AHCV site, it talks about at least 2-weeks to allow for fact gathering then committee has to meet, yada yada.

I would bet the reporters that cover A&M sports don't know for the most part. People know. People posting on this board know. But they aren't leaking it to a message board (nor should they) and they aren't leaking it to reporters on A&M sports as they know that could cause it to leak wide. This athletic department doesn't like to leak injuries. They certainly don't want details of any university process of an athlete to be leaked.

True, though I'd say the reporters that cover A&M basketball are a far cry from those that cover football. Football you have some true investigative reporting, basketball is very much a "we'll take what news we officially get".

But I think solely the fact that nothing has leaked to the message boards or twittersphere means whatever this is, is A) Serious and B) Very tight-lipped because of A. Bobinator isn't even talking on the Kansas message boards about it.

A large # of people knew 24 hours or so before Liucci "broke/was-allowed-to-release" the news that Weigman was done for the year -- this was still while Jimbo was at the presser saying it was day-to-day. That's about as big a news as you can get in A&M athletics and you still had plenty of people discussing it behind the scenes long before news broke.

No news isn't good news in this scenario IMO.

Eh, I don't think it's so much the reporters as it is the people around the programs because the reporters are the same people. There's just legions more people in the boat in football to potentially leak information, especially when the tide starts to turn on a coach. Not only are there WAY more players, coaches, support staff, etc, etc, but there's also way more major donors keeping close tabs on it who could leak it as well.

I would guess at least a couple of reporters have a pretty good idea of what the situation is, but they can't print anything because it would burn the source.
Proposition Joe

I think it's simply a case of demand for the news.

It's worth hunting down a lead on the status of our 3rd best WR because it's gonna get the clicks/eyeballs.

It's really not for one of our basketball players.
bobinator

I think eyeballs are a factor, but a bigger factor is how many important people is it going to piss off for you to be able to report it and is that story worth it versus future stories.

The ship for football is so big that you could come to the SID's with something like "hey I've got multiple sources saying xyz, enough that I can run the story, does anyone want to confirm or comment" and in most situations they're not going to know who the source is in this town. Could be a doctor, someone else on the team, one of the other players' parents, who knows, there's SO many people. So even if you go with the story without their confirmation or comment, you have multiple sources and you didn't burn them in the process because the AD still doesn't know who they are. The athletic department might be mad at you about it, but there's not really much they can do.

That is generally not the case with basketball. The ship is so much smaller that leaks are much easier to identify and plug.
Proposition Joe
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, but in this case we're getting *nothing*.

Not a "I'd expect to hear something in a week" or a "this shouldn't be something that impacts his conference eligibility" or a "for the time being Aggies are planning to be without him".

One doesn't have to give up details to convey where a situation is currently at.

I'm not even specifically stating Texags - I think we're all aware they are more of an extension of the university's PR than an independent news site.

Again, I know nothing so I'm still purely speculating. But in a school with 70k people and everyone and their dog wanting attention on social media the fact that almost nothing has been mentioned about this situation would lead me to believe that it's a serious enough situation no one wants to comment on it.

If this was a "ChatGPT churned out a paper that a professor didn't like" then we'd have heard about it by now.
bobinator

Yeah I don't disagree that it's serious. I was just disagreeing that the reporters wouldn't track it down if they could or that they definitely don't know. I can think of several reasons they might know but can't say anything at all.

But agree with the overall idea that it's either serious or that the penalty for it is potentially serious.
TheTexian

I agree with Bobinator here. Even if it is serious, revealing the Marble situation simply isn't worth burning a source/getting access cut off from basketball. Especially when Buzz has been preaching privacy lately.

If I knew, I sure wouldn't want to burn that bridge even if it meant breaking a big story. Even if we ignore the privacy concern, it's just not worth it for any reporter.

Texas just fined Ernst&Whinney CPA for an ethics violation,
they cheated on the ethics test and then lied to cover up.
Costing them $3million at least.
Yeah, this should be on politics but I can't help but think
about the hints that Marble is caught in some sort of ethics crack.
The point is this stuff can get serious.

We act like we have a God given right to know RIGHT NOW.
We don't.
This will play out when it plays out, for good or ill.
In the meantime, this is pretty damn good basketball team we've got here. One that we can rally around.

If Marble ends up playing, awesome.
If not, them's the breaks.

Mike is a former D1 basketball coach and often has good info that you don't get from message boards. He is a good poster. Regardless whether the situation turned differently than what he expected after typing that, doesn't mean he was 'talking out of his hindquarters' at the time.
