This "the tournament doesn't matter" line has suddenly been adopted and accepted as fact, but I don't think it's true.

There is a dampening effect of the impact due to the fact that the entire field except for the tournament champions are going to take a loss. But I do think teams that get impressive wins move up seed lines all the time.

7 if the selection show was today. Might take 2 wins to get to a 6.

In my time of watching college basketball I don't think I can ever recall the conference tournament helping a bubble team get into the dance, unless they win the tournament. The committee will have either included the bubble team or left them out even before the tournaments begin. I do think seeding can be helped by winning a tournament, though.

I think that if the committee can get Michigan State or Duke to the 6th seed, they will, putting A&M at 7, but I also think they might put Gonzaga there, so I'll keep A&M at 6.

IF your championship game is on Saturday (see Syracuse as a 5). SEC on Sunday is just too late.

6. The 1 and 2 seed power brokers don't want A&M in the second round or the team that beats us either.

I think we are a 6 right now. Based on SEC Tourny..

0-1 = 7 seed
1-1 = 6 seed
2-1 = 5 seed
3-0 = 5 seed

6 and we'll catch a team like Charleston that shoots the lights out from 3 and have a real challenge with the first round, but will be a second weekend team if we get by that first game.

I am thinking a 3 seed if we win the tourney which I think we will/. We have momentum and confidence. Sec is no joke this year, so many teams are very good. We have the best team I have seen in a while.

Committee doesn't care enough to move us that many spots if we win, they only care if we weren't a bubble team and we snatch an AQ.

Whatever they deem us as now is what we will stay unless we lose our first tourney game, (drop a seed), or win the whole thing (go up a seed).

FIFY

We should win game 1 for the Ags that went to Nashville and then start the bottom of the bench as a big old bird to the committee and then go home and rest. They don't care, why should the teams.

I would not be too sad if we win Friday to tell committee we are ready to beat NET top 20 teams (as we have been doing these last few weeks) and solidify what I hope is a 5 seed - then let our bench players play against Vandy or Kentucky on Saturday to allow us to go home to College Station for the Selection Sunday party and for a day of rest.

For everyone saying the tournaments don't impact seeding (and I know Lunardi's bracket is just his but it's the most talked about)... Mizzou and Arkansas just moved up, Auburn moved down, based on yesterday's tournament results.

From the start to the end of this thread it appears that the consensus among TexAgs posters AND current bracketologist is a likely 6 seed.

I've consistently opined that a 6 seed is our floor and really prefer a 5 seed - which I believe a strong case could be made for NOW - and perhaps the committee, maybe in an effort to right last year's wrong (right - "dream on" you tell me) will throw us a bone with a 5 seed if we win tonight.

I am especially wary of a 6 seed due to the fact someone brought up in the last week or so that, since expansion to 68 teams, 6 seeds have not fared particularly well against 11 seeds that have already played in Dayton and could be riding a bit of momentum (see UCLA as a Dayton team in recent years).

For example, if Utah State and Mississippi State are slotted as 11 seeds in Dayton, I think the winner of that game would be a tough out for any 6 seed.

For that reason, I might actually prefer the 7 seed if we cannot get a 5 seed.

Still, of multiple postulated brackets out this a.m. - this is one that I could actually embrace even though it does pit us against that dreaded Dayton winner (Penn State or Arizona State) - as it also puts us in my preferred #1 (Houston) region, gives us a beatable 3 seed (Gonzaga) to get to the Sweet 16 and also includes a potential interesting clash with the sips on that first game of the second weekend.

Let's just BTHO Arkansas today and increase the odds of that preferred 5 seed!!!

6 seeds are either like us - early blemishes that cap seeding. Or are early locks that limp in.

I like our chance against any 11. And we put off the 1 for an extra round.

I think we are a 5th seed if we win today. Otherwise, agree with you... with hope committee puts us in a 5 seed late tonight after our win - then has the wherewithal to figure out they can easily switch places between us and our Region's 4 seed if we happen to win the SECT Championship on Sunday.

Winning the tourney makes zero difference for us. There is nobody left on the other side of the bracket to seed. Bama is a 1. UK and Mizzou are 7s. We're a 6.

Vandy is the only team playing for something. They have to win to get in.

When Vandy loses, the committee quits watching the SEC.

Idk, I'd personally like to win the conference tourney.

Meh. The only reason we remember UT won the SEC last year was because they beat us. Else it's an asterisk at best.

I mean that's cool if you don't care about winning I guess. I'd personally like to hang the banner.

I care about winning. Just don't care about this tournament. Want to win the next one. No upside to winning here. Only risk of injury.

We need more banners. Helps on official visits. I'd like to win both tournaments. Go big or go home.

I'm sticking with my original prediction:
