Hop,
I was at this game and had front row seats. I agree with your take about being happy with a win on the road. However, after watching the Vandy coach and players on the court and on the bench versus our coach and players, it is just frustrating to see the lack of intensity. My Vandy friend (female) kept asking me why the Aggies didn't play harder. She kept saying, "they aren't even trying. They're just better. They should win by 50." The Vandy fans beside me kept saying "they're just too big.". I'll always take an Aggie win but watching that game yesterday really opened my eyes to the state of the program. So many juicy highs and so many frustrating lows and knowing the coach is part of the problem and not the solution and that we are stuck with him at least another year and we are losing 4 players and maybe 5 or 6 and only have 1 recruit committed.
Honestly, I'm not sure of the upside of making the tournament and getting knocked out in the first round. Like Jeremy Foley used to say "what needs to happen eventually should happen now."
I could only see what the camera showed, but on many good plays you could see Darby Rich get off the bench and butt slap guys after a big play. The camera panned over to the A&M bench several times and they looked engaged, active, and in good spirits.
I don't know who your friend is, but until A&M went in prevent mode at the end, I thought the team played hard and played well. They extended to take away the 3-point shot. Vandy only had 2-3 3-pointers until that last 4-5 minutes.
I would ask your friend how another Drew in the coaching tree with their dubious reputation can all of a sudden start signing 5-star recruits to that dump of a facility.
