Those who wish Kennedy fails so he can get fired and the team will fail to reach the NIT group.

Right now I'd be disappointed if we don't compete for the SEC regular season and tourney title and/or get to the Sweet Sixteen.

We've got too much talent and experience for anything less than a top 3 SEC finish and a couple of Ws in the NCAA tourney to not be considered highly disappointing. Even with a loser nice guy as our head coach. Basically what the guy above me said but no and/or on being highly competitive for SEC reg season & tourney AND Sweet 16 berth. Both.

Given the overall level of talent for next year's squad and the overall talent level of our coaching disappointment of some level is the expected outcome.

you guys are probably setting yourselves up for a fall here.

But I dont know how we just automatically turn the 0fer around with our coaching staff.....Id LOVE to see us hire an experienced bench coach to fill the Stansbury void

Jimmy's and Joe's can beat bad competition but need help against teams with similar talent.

I guess it depends on how you define success. To compare it to grades, that would be a "C-" season to me next year.

Agree. With talent we have on the roster we should be a 2-5 seed. I'm expecting a 5-8 seed.

I don't know...could it be the six new players coming on-line replacing six dead spots on last year's roster? And four of those directly address the one glaring weakness on the team. I think we know where you stand on the case of Billy Kennedy. You've made a good case, counselor. Can we litigate the hundred of other topics related to A&M and SEC basketball? What are your thoughts on the ball skills of the Marquette transfer?

As for the discussion, can we address how in year 6 we have SIX "dead spots" on the roster? What an amazing recruiter Kennedy must be!

I'm writing a note to TexAgs that I think Hop's behavior under the credentials of being a staff member has gone too far.

If he can complain and punish based on our behavior as customers, I can complain too.

Yeah, I guess I thought Kennedy was a good recruiter, but dang, our roster S-U-C-K-E-D this year as far as depth, player improvement, etc.

The good:

Gilder - He definitely improved, even though he had to do the bulk of the pg job (even though he's more of a 2 guard - maybe a combo guard).

RW - We didn't know how good he would be, but improved throughout the season. Not sure I'd put that on the coaching staff - he was just a lot more comfortable.

Push :

Davis - He looked good in some games, bad in others. He was consistent most of the time, but I'd say he regressed a bit (too many turnovers).

The bad:

Miller - Didn't provide much off of the bench other than the occasional bucket and 5 fouls per game.

Trocha - He sucked in most games this year. Definitely regressed. Much worse than last year, and not near as consistent.

Eubanks - Provided nothing.

Vila - Again, provided nothing.

Hampton - Had an occasional breakout game, but was asked to do something he's not - combo-guard. He's a spot up shooter - nothing more, nothing less. I'd say Collins was better last year in this role.

Carlton / Collins - Not very good guard depth off of the bench.

Chandler, Flagg, Starks, and Jasey aren't going to be as good as we think they are going to be (i.e. highlights). Most freshmen aren't. What we are hoping for is that all of our good players improve, Hogg and Trocha get better, and our freshmen are better than most are. Do we really expect Kennedy-coached players to be markedly better? Because I just haven't seen the improvement in guys he's coached when he doesn't have the right mix of assistant coaches (see Stansbury, etc.).

I just can't get excited about the "potential" of freshmen or current players improving when Kennedy hasn't shown the ability to "coach up" players. The only player I think may improve is RW - but that's just due to him not having played basketball for very long. Shouldn't our basketball coach actually improve the way our players play, thus making our team better (and not relying solely on pure talent)? I'd much rather have a BCG type team of nobodies that is well-coached than a more talented team sans coaching. I think that is the main gist of the Frank Martin / Kennedy debate - Martin has proven to be a good coach, as seen in the defensive tenacity of how they play and Kennedy has proven to be a mediocre coach as seen in the lacksidasical effort our players gave this year (over 60% of the time), combined with the mass loss of players (the past 6 years) who have transferred and the general lack of any coherent "style" of play over said 6 years (I guess you could say we've played "decent" defense, but not anywhere near the way a BCG's or Frank Martin's team plays, which is all about effort, and with which I just haven't seen most years in BK led Aggie teams).

My head is telling me that we should finish towards the top of the SEC and make a decent run next march. My heart is telling me we float around around .500 in league play and get bounced in the first round of the NIT. It's normally the other way around.

Seems pretty evident, especially based on that last part about having a bench coach, he was commenting on the quality of coaching the roster will receive and that he find that an overriding consideration. Which is absolutely fair game in a thread about expectations for a season despite the impending claim that we're not sticking to the topic on hand.

I think we could be pretty good next even with the current bench coaching, but sometimes I feel like you need an interpreter.
