Nah. 1 MVP (soon to be 2 though), 1 ring without the finals MVP, and a pair of fantastic offensive seasons does not make somebody top ten all time.

And...if you were lucky, you saw how incredible he was tonight--especially in the overtime. He is on another plane right now.

Most fun I've had watching a regular season NBA game in a long time.

Just another Chauncey Billups. I'm sure he's just been feeling it for three to four years. Probably due for a bad streak.

Wow. 42 points @Miami on Wednesday night. 51 points @Orlando on Thursday night. And then 46 points @Oklahoma City tonight.

In the past 4 days, Curry has scored 139 points in 3 games (46.33 ppg).

That game winner is one of the best shots ever made. Everyone in the restaurant/bars roared when he made that rediculous shot. He set the all time record for 3s in a game and season and capped it all off with that shot.

ESPN has posted the entire game on the NBA home page if you'd like to watch the game.

How is it that someone can be that much a better shooter than everyone when guys practice shooting all the time. Part of it is that he takes shots that most coaches hate but he hits so many of them it is just ridiculous and great to watch.

pretty sure OP meant greatest shooter of all time, no one is stupid enough to compare him to MJ at this point, he has to continue on this level for quite awhile, especially when free agency hits and teams look diff. Nobody with 1 championship and 2 MVP's is the GOAT.

Many, including myself, seem to consider him GOAT shooter at this point.

In terms of comparisons to MJ, not only on message boards but in the media and all the sports talk shows, that is going to be inevitable not only because of what Curry individually is doing but because the Golden State Warriors are chasing the '96 Bulls 72-10 regular season record.

His game winner last night at OKC was just stupid. Steph is proving himself to be the greatest shooter in the history of the game. But he will never sniff the GOAT conversation. He's just not well rounded enough as a player. Jordan could do it all and at a very high level. When people questioned his 3-point shooting ability he proceeded to rain 3 balls on the Trail Blazers in the NBA Finals.

Jordan was a fantastic defender which is what will shoot down the "Curry GOAT?" discussion before it even gets off the ground. Curry is a meh defender who gets a couple steals per game. If you want to be in the GOAT conversation you can't merely be meh on one half of the court.

That said, he's on pace to be a better offensive player. There honestly isn't even a comparison for what Curry is doing. NBA players have vastly improved their 3pt sorting, but it's still a tough shot so players like to be facing the hoop and in position to shoot when they get the ball. If everything isn't right, they miss a lot. Curry does not bother with any of that. He takes catch, turnaround, and shoot 3 pointers. He regularly takes 28' 3 pointers. He crosses over defender behind the 3pt line and then jacks shots when he gets a foot of space (Kobe does this too but he's not a great 3pt shooter).

Curry regularly takes 3pt shots that are far more difficult than what his peers are taking, takes A LOT more of them overall, and is still hitting way 46%. Again, there's no historical comparison. Nobody has ever done this.

I'd argue the "better offensive player" opinion. Without a doubt a better shooter but Jordan's all around game with the ball in his hand is better IMO.

Today's shooters should be able to outscore anybody from the past because of the hand checking changes and the fact that the grazing whisper on a 3 point shooter gets them 3 foul shots (not that Jordan didn't get his fair share of more than beneficial calls). It's the same reason today's qbs and WRs should be so much more productive, making a comparison to the past difficult.

However, in saying all that, Steph's shooting these past few years is unbelievable. He might hit 400 when nobody else will have yet hit 300 in a year. He's unbelievable, and should be able to do that for a long time (as ray allen showed).

ESPN analytic guys are saying that Curry offensive efficiency numbers this season are the best ever by an individual player, are saying that 'on paper' this season by Curry is the greatest individual performance in terms of offensive production in history of the game.

I love Jordan BTW. I grew up idolizing MJ and he was in his prime when I played in high school and during my college years. Jordan is GOAT...but Curry is definitely doing something remarkable and trending towards worthy of being in the conversation with MJ if he keeps this up for a few more years.

And I second the poster above that brought up the hand check rules these days. I can only imagine how much more Jordan would dominate if he was in the league now. Teams actually played physical defense back then.

do they "ease up" at 73 wins, or can they get to 75-7?
can they go 41-0 at home?

that 72-10 team benefited from playing 6 expansion teams.
the 1st year raptors and grizzlies
the T-wolves, orlando magic, miami heat and charlotte hornets had come into existence just 6/7 yrs before.

you are correct about hand checking, the league was much more physical, but arguably was at a talent dip, especially when there were 6 new teams to divide the talent pool.

I don't know if I agree with you there. Jordan was better attacking the rim and his midrange game was better, but Curry is probably a better passer (I'll admit here I haven't watched any Jordan assist highlights) and his range stresses and contorts a defense in ways that even Jordan couldn't dream of.

Jordan was an excellent passer and constantly required double & triple teams. If that doesn't stress & contort a defense I have no idea what would.

Seems like Curry doesn't rely on ridiculous star treatment to dominate a game. I really like that about his game.

If the hand-checking was such a factor, wouldn't the statistics that compare them both to the rest of the league during that era debunk that? I'm familiar with it for baseball, but what is the standard for basketball? Offensive Box Plus-Minus?

We were all robbed when the '93 Finals didn't go 7 games. In all of Jordan's championships, only the '93 Suns were legitimate challengers.

The sport really needs a healthy Cleveland squad in top form...Or SA to move to the Eastern conference. Jordan's greatness unfortunately came at a time when there were few other great teams.

Jordan's career FG% is higher than Curry's this season. The only thing Curry has on Jordan is range. That's it, nothing else to this point in his career. I can't help but think that Jordan's 3pt range would have looked much better if he wasn't busy making every player look like a high schooler when he drove through, around, over them on the way to a ridiculous bucket.

If Curry can continue for another 8 or 10 years at his current pace, he will be the second best of all time.
