Like most things, i'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle. That said, he's always been a hard-driver, and not only that, but a hard driver that started running into failure. Motivated to regain success, I wouldn't be surprised at all if that led him to cross lines that he may have approached before but didn't cross. The man has been through a lot since he left here, so one cant just assume he's still the same guy running things the same way.

I played for gillespie in high school at killeen ellison. I initially remember thinking the man was was a monster, but sticking it out and playing for him paid dividends in college and the military with the mindset he instilled in his players. Chances are he would not recall me but get well coach.

Health aside. What are Gillispies options. Big schools will never touch him. A school like Tech seemed like a good fit. That didn't work out. I'm not saying it was all his fault. He seemed to want more than a school like Houston would give him. That seemed like a good fit. I think if he really wants to get back in the game he needs to realize Houston wasn't to small for him. As he is going to have to go even smaller. He doesn't seem like a fit in the mid west or east or west coast. That leaves the south. It would seem he needs a major rehab job like working in the media. I was shocked he didn't do that last time. Than it comes down to can he change any or some? Because I've got a hard time thinking he was this hard driving at A&M.

IMO, he shouldn't run the ship for a few years. Get back in the flow of things.. Observe how "normal" D1 coaches operate.. Re-gain some credibility.. And then, MAYBE he gets one more shot at a small time D1 school.

I never understood why he didn't do that to begin with.

im a big supporter of bcg...but what head coach is going to go to their AD and stick their neck out for bcg at this point? Maybe in a few years, after things have cooled off...but right now he has no creditability on the recruiting trail or dealing with players...two pretty big components of being an assistant coach

Billy is tight with Self. Collectively, they have tons of connections. He will be an assistant somewhere if he wants to.

I'm sure the head coaches are lined up trying to hire BCG so he can get on the road and recruit.

Well you certaintly have a smug posting style. We'll just have to see what happens. But I predict he will be an assistant at a decent D1 program somewhere. Name guys with connections land on their feet eventually. Most kids just know the name/resume- which will impress them more than some assistant they never heard of (yes, even with an abortion of a season last year). Recruits generally aren't gossiping with former techtard basketball players or think for a second they won't be tough enough to handle some guy as an assistant coach.

I have a difficult time believing any kid a "decent D-1" program would want is unaware of the basics of the Gillispie saga. At the least, any kid who may be seriously considering signing with Gillispie's school would find out, one way or another.

Coach Self, or any coach, is probably tight with multiple guys. I don't doubt Self will always be there when BCG needs someone to talk too and will support BCG, but Bill Self's professional life doesn't have any reason to take on the risk. Similarly, players a "decent D-1" program would want probably have multiple coaches with pretty good resumes trying to sign them. They don't need to mess with BCG.

People with bigger issues than BCG's have found their way back. The question will be when and were and, IF and ONLY if, he gets his personal life under control. He has one chance left. If he blows it, then he's done exept possibly in the media and even that is questionable.
