Seriously?

They would be in the NIT this year without him. He is basically their entire team. Sure, other guys score, but they would do a whole lot less of it if they didn't have Augustin setting them up. Just wait until he is gone and you will see.

Seriously.

They'll be fine without him. When wasn't Texas alright after losing an important player?

People on here say that kinda crap every year and tu just reloads and makes another run. Where have I seen that before??? Oh yeah...over on the football board...just replace tourney run with 10 win season!

To the OP:

Texas won their games this year, we did not.

We win the games we should have, we would be a 2 and have an "easier" draw.

HTH

We have an easier path to the Sweet 16 than you guys, but I think we drew the toughest #3 with Stanford. That is not going to be an easy game, even in Houston.

Miami (once they get past St. Mary Gaels) can give tu a run for their money. They are made a good run past mid season. So not too sure about that Sweet 16 for the sips.

Ya think?

Sure, if we'd taken care of our business we'd have had a better draw, and Texas certainly deserved a 2 seed, but to have to travel no farther than Little Rock for ANY game? Nobody outside of maybe Carolina got a better draw. Texas should cruise to the F4.

tu is a legit 2 seed. You can't deny that. 2 seeds get easier opponents. What's to ***** about?

Texas won't get by the Cardinal.

Stanford has a good chance to be in the championship game.

Honestly if they don't make it to at least the Elite 8 with that schedule it will be a bad tourney for them.

To put it in perspective a buddy of mine that went there was joking about it being associated with Staples....they could push the button after the first few games "that was easy"

Agreed. If they can't win with the best gift-wrapped bracket I've ever seen for a 2 seed, I'm not sure when it will happen. Memphis OTOH got hosed.

Yep, because it really hurt Texas last time they lost a bigtime player. Oh boy, what a collapse that was!

Only 2 things will stop UT before the Elite 8

1. DJ gets in foul trouble or gets injured
2. They just go completely cold

You can't just replace a great PG and keep going at the same level - I think we proved that this year. Who is going to step in at PG for them? Damion James will take his act to the NBA (or the D league to be more accurate.) That leaves them with:

PG: nobody, Mason out of position, maybe
SG: Eyeliner Abrams
SF: nobody
PF: Johnson
C: Moving Screen Atchley

Someone please explain to me how this group of scrubs makes the Dance next year. The sips' season this coupled with the Sonics suckage proves that Durant was terribly overrated, Augustin was the real thing, and without either, they are screwed. I can't wait to see those whining whorns when they are left out in the cold on selection sunday next year when we are getting a 1-3 seed.

This could be their year to win it all in basketball. They have yet to play even close to their potential with the talent they have.

All you proved bellaire was that YOU couldn't replace a great pg & keep going at the same level. Barnes has been replacing great PGs for years, & we already have Balbay in the wings. Thanks for your annual show of concern though. It is truly appreciated.

Anything can happen in the NCAA Tournament...From 64-65 down to 1 is a long road. A lot has to happen in their favor and we've seen that they can have their bad games...we'll see.

I am curious what makes them think that Balbay will be able to step in and carry the load.

Not to mention that he will be suspended for half the season by the NCAA for playing in a professional game overseas.

We won't make the tourney next year huh? Wow -now THAT is funny. Has the last 10 years not shown you anything?

I do like our draw but Stanford will be a tough match up and Memphis is Legit. Both would be great games.

Come on, UTGrad02, don't you remember the last time Texas had to replace a First Team All-American at point guard?? The year after TJ Ford left? Texas didn't make the tourney, did they? Learn your UT basketball before you pipe up!!!

Wait....what's that? They were a 3-seed and made the Sweet 16????? Oh. Never mind......
Texdoc

Bellaire - no need to be a racist. (sheesh)

Hoya ag - I am curious as to why you would think that he couldn't step in based on RB's history of player evaluation & development at that position? Just look at Ivey as a good example.

Regardless, here is a snippet on Balbay from NBADraft .net to give you an idea of where he CURRENTLY stands with NBA scouts. He will only keep improving under Rick's tutoring. :

Overall rating: 85

"Balbay is a lefty scoring PG with an excellent first step. He has the type of quickness, reflexes, & change of direction ability that lets him get wherever he wants to on the floor. He's a very crafty dribbler who knows how to set up his defender to get him off balance, but he plays under control. Balbay also has very nice leaping ability that helps him finish at the basket, & he uses it to help out on the glass - out jumping other players for rebounds. He uses his speed to get into the passing lanes at opportune times on defense. His game is very street oriented, & reminds a little bit of Tony Parker's style of play & skill set."

An 85 ranking by the pro scouts equates to greatness at the college level. Hope this helps.
