i never thought i'd ever see a woman leave early to be the number 1 pick in the draft. I know she is a damn good player, but wow.

The redshirt junior will graduate at the end of this season and wants to participate in the Summer Olympics and pursue a professional career, coach Pat Summitt said Thursday.

Candace Parker, with an eye on the Olympics and the pros, is one of six women to have dunked in a college game.
"Obviously we'd love to have her another year," Summitt told The Associated Press. "Who wouldn't?"

Yeah, wtf. One is trying to be president but thank God a brother is going to work it out.

Seriously, though what do WNBA players make? Is the league still totally subsidized by the NBA or does it make any money to cover expenses?

It is truly an awesome shirt.

Right there, I don't care what your politics are but if a guy is on the winning end of a shirt and phrase like that, you have to respect.

Strange, I never expect women to leave school early for the pros...

Courtney Paris thought about opting for the WNBA draft after this season but decided to come back for her senior year

Nothing like rushing out to get your 42k.

What WNBA players make

That's ridiculous compared to men athletes. Although, I'm sure it would be enjoyable to play the game you love for your career as well as for your country.

And you know that she will get some endorsements.

1. She is not leaving early. She had a medical redshirt her freshman year and will graduate, which is why she isn't staying longer.

2. Do y'all really care?

That girl in Cypress is in high school, she could skip college and be the first pick in the draft unless there is a rule against it.

So she is finishing her degree. That's good because almost any degree can get you $50k/year. Even if she was giving up a $100k/year day job, I could totally understand and support doing what you love, even if it meant a pay cut.

But I'm sure there are endorsements and lecture deals (speaking at schools and functions, etc), so I wouldn't be surprised if some came close to half a mil.

EDIT: just looked it up, ~$740k team salary cap, WITH endorsements average is $90-$120k, up to $230k

I would honestly live more comfortably and be happier as a collegiate athlete on scholarship with food, housing, etc taken care of than doing anything for 40k a year

Something told me not to click on this link.

Andy, that was not nice even though I am LMAO.

McInnis, even if she could skip HS, she would not be the first pick. Even the girl who can dunk wouldn't be the first pick. There are tons of PROVEN college players out there

Last I heard (on NPR a year ago or so), the WNBA was still costing the NBA tens of millions of dollars a year. If I were an NBA franchise owner, I'd be none too happy.

Cdub, what's ridiculous about it? The league would fold (Without the NBA carrying the financial load) if they didn't pay the players ANYTHING. THAT'S what is ridiculous.

Gun safety is no accident.

In the long run, a free college education might be worth more than what she will make in the WNBA.

It's laughable to hear people say that WNBA players are under-paid. The fact is they are actually over-paid. They should earn what the market dictates. And withouth NBA subsidies, that would be alot less than what they're making now. Political correctness has no place in the free market.

I understand the economics of it and I'm not saying she should be paid more. What I meant by ridiculous is that it's obscene how much less they make then men. I think the ridiculous portion of this comparison is the amount that NBA players pull down.

As I said before, that amount would certainly be enough for me to leave college to do something I loved for my career and country. The endorsements should more than double her salary.
