it should be a 12 team tournament from the get go with best of 5 series, either that or a quasi rotational blind-choice round robin with tie breakers from each bi-divisional region's 3 way face off
if no clear victor emerges, a two man sack race will be held on consecutive sundays until a champion can be crowned

It is rediculous how the north only has to play ou, a&m, t.u. and baylor once, but the north is coming around with teams like KSU joining the ranks. Other than that the north sucks.

By the way, it's cyclical. The North was the daddy for the first several years.

Anyone remember when ISU and Mizzou put out some really good teams while A&M, Baylor, and Tech were non existent?

no, because that would hurt the big12 come NCAA tourney selection time. Instead of knockign off teams from other conferences in non conference play, The big12 teams would be knocking each other off too much in conference play, thus hurting their records.

I honestly don;t think the regular season conference championship means much at all in hoops.

why does "it goes in cycles" help anything - that still means that half the teams have it easier in a given year.

But which half?

Since, as it has been pointed out here, we can't do a complete round-robin until the other major conferences do the same thing; there is no way to truly balance schedules.

With that in mind, as long as the half getting the harder road changes from time to time, we've got the best possible scenario for now.

The OP doesn't even make sense. Hypothetically speaking, if the South is such tough competition, then why would you want to pit all the South teams against each other in the race for the Big 12 South? All you are left with would be a really good South team demolishing a so-so North team in the conference championship game. Why not give all teams a fair shot at getting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The way we have it, if the South were so powerful, then they could end up 1st-6th (assuming all teams swept the North and then split all home and home games).

The fact is, even if the two were unbalanced, creating a Big 12 South/Big 12 North Champ would only make it more unfair.
