Immersion blender?

What do you use one for and how often do you use it?

I have to this point in my life never used one and a Costco sale on a Cuisnart immersion blender has me wondering whether I should add it to my kitchen tools or whether it's something that will just take up space.

To this point I use a small food processor to chop and grind things like chimichurri and pesto, and a blender for bigger quantities like a batch of salsa.

I got one last year as a gift and the only thing I've used it for was tomato soup that I've made twice since. Gotta be careful pulling it up out of the pot while still holding the trigger.

If you ever need to cook a lot of scrambled eggs, you can use it to beat the eggs. Mine came with a whisk attachment along with the regular blender attachment.

Soup, marinara sauce, salsas, homemade mayo and I use the mini chopper for small jobs that aren't worth getting the food processor out for

The main thing I use it for is soup. My wife and kid aren't big on chunks of veggies in soup so it does a great job getting it all to a smooth consistency. I also have a Cuisinart one and it's nice because it has 2 speeds so if you're mixing something in a smaller container or jar you can use it without risking food going everywhere. Now that cold weather is closer I use it a lot more often. It's nice to be able to blend without taking your food out of the pot and put it in the blender.

2 minute homemade mayo was a game changer for me. I've always despised commercial mayo but the homemade stuff is incredible. Worth it for that alone.

Soups and sauces mostly. I actually make a "smooth" gumbo by blenderizing the veggies in some of the stock after sauting them - makes it really rich.

I use mine almost every day for my protein shake.

1/4 cup ice
1 serving Optimum Nutrition Vanilla (31 grams)
1 serving Pbfit (16 grams)
4 oz milk

I like the immersion blender not only because it comes out super smooth, but because it also whips a bunch of air into it, making it very thick.

I also use it for salad dressings that are true emulsions, like Caesar salad dressing.

I use the heck out of mine. Soups and smoothies are my primary uses. Way easier to blend up a smoothie in a mason jar or other container than dirtying up the whole blender.

Mine is a POS oster that came from H-E-B probably 15 years ago when I was lolpoor. I keep talking about replacing it or waiting for it to break and get something better but the dang thing keeps on trucking.

I have one and almost never use it but I don't make a lot of sauces or smoothies. Honestly, I don't find a blender that difficult to clean.

I use just a cheap (like $30) Hamilton Beach 2 speed that came with a whisk attachment, and I wouldn't be without it.

Can you share a recipe/directions? I went ahead and bought one and this might be my first use of it.

Just keep in mind the shelf life of the homemade stuff is relatively short. Like max a week

I got me. Cordless KitchenAid one…

Made some butternut squash soup from scratch last night and it was so easy

Made some avocado jalapeño ranch dressing the other day - game changer

I bought one 2 years ago for $10 from the grocery store - no name brand. Before that I just used my blender when making soups and stuff. I find that I am more inclined to make something that needs blending now because it's much easier.

I use it for black bean soup, an indian dish made of lentils called daal, and have used it for home made mayo as well. Have also used it to make marinades that involved, for example chipotle peppers that needed blending.

I have been looking for a smaller one though. I make overnight oats all the time, and whisking it with a fork to blend up the almond butter and protein powder I put in it takes a while. But my immersion blender is just a tad bit too big to submerge in my containers. Been on the look out for one that's smaller that would submerge without making a mess. Not sure if anyone has seen one. Google says to try the milk frothers, but I don't want a bunch of bubbles in my oats either.

I don't think milk frothers would be strong enough to cut through the nut butter

That's probably true as well. That's why I need a mini immersion blender.

Maybe I just need to invent my own and go on Kickstarter.

For our blender we just fill it about halfway with some hot water and dish soap, then run it on a "clean" setting and that's it...

When I cook breakfast for my son's high school football team (usually breakfast tacos) I use mine with the whisk attachment when beating the eggs. 3 dozen eggs is ALOT of work by hand.

We also use ours for homemade mayo, salsa, soup, but it shines in making refried beans.
