I was blessed to grow up in a household with a mother who was a Fantastic cook. We rarely ate out (except for vacations). So really most of my guilty pleasures commercially available came in my college years.

Ramen. I have 2 boys now 15 an 13 and they love ramen. Plus with an instant pot we can cook 9 perfect soft boiled eggs at a time. We now buy eggs 2-1/2 dozen at a time as we have started 2 a days for football today.

The allsups gut bombs. We live out her and there's an allsups in all of the small towns around. I work in the ag industry so yeah there's been many meals consumed I. An allsups parking lot.

Totinos pizzas see 2 teenage boys. We buy a couple of the 4 packs every time we go to the grocery store it seems like.

Cheap Mac & cheese that has the powder
Totinos pizzas
Cheapo ramen that's like $0.15
Wolf Brand chili
Ritz crackers with canned cheese

Restaurants:
McDonald's double cheese burger from the value menu
Taco Bell bean burrito with sour cream
Sonic cheese sticks
Hertz chicken

Totino's party pizzas were a staple in college when they were 3 for $1. I'd add a little extra mozarella and some garlic salt, cook until the crust was fairly crisp. Damn, those things were awesome.

Fried bolognia sandiwch. 2 slices of beef bolognia, white bread, mayo and Kraft american cheese slice between the bolognia slices and on top. Pure whiskey tango, but they were a staple growing up.

Kraft Mac and Cheese, sometimes with a hot dog weenie chopped up in it, maybe some tuna.

7-11 or Stop n Go hot dog after a round of golf, with nacho cheese on it. Don't know why but those always hit well even knowing they had probably been on the warming roller thing since at least yesterday.

Frito pie with Wolf brand chili (hot, no beans) with Rotel hot mixed in to give it some tomato and more flavor, lots of grated cheddar. Again, whiskey tango, but on a cold day when I would come in from hunting or outside and didn't want to make anything, it absolutely slammed.

Can't really think of any fast food joints that fit the bill. I crave a big mac about once a year and always regret it after. I wish Popeye's still had actual spicy chicken. The ghost pepper wings they have now are pretty solid.

Totino's love goes at least back to Junior High for me. We had open campus lunch and all of us wanted to maximize the time that we could play low-goal dunk hoops, so there was an all out sprint in all directions for those who left. On a lot of days, I would sprint a half a mile home (I just mapped it), throw a Totino's in the microwave (gross now, but good then), wolf it down and sprint back.

You are not alone on the cheap Tex-Mex. There are a few chain Tex Mex joints in East Texas that we will hit on our road trips at my insistence. Which reminds me of another nostalgic favorite that I can't get in Houston:

We loved Grandy's. There MIGHT still be one in San Angelo, but I'm not sure.

Taco Bell Bellbeefer. Died when they went "outside the bun", but it was a go-to back in the elementary school days.

My grandmother used to make those for me. I make a grown up version with fried mortadella, provolone, and pesto Mayo on ciabatta but I wouldn't turn down an OG if you put one in front of me

I think you misread the threat title.

Take it to the "Incredible and Underrated Food that Slams" thread.

My great aunt and uncle took us to DQ in Salado after a day of floating the creek and introduced us to the tacos. They are still as great today as they were 40 years ago.

Anyone remember Pancho's Mexican Restaurant chain? It was all you can eat with the little flags you put up and down when you wanted to order more food? For dessert they'd bring you hot sopapillas you would drizzle with honey? I believe the only one still operating is somewhere in N Houston off I-45. Mom would take us hungry kids there all the time and fill us up for a whole day.

They are a couple notches better than taco bell tacos. AND you should order fries with them. Perfect meal.

Also, I agree with whoever said chicos was a love/hate deal. Ate this a few times during high school coming back from Juarez and it was ok. Many years later, members of my family became close friends with the owners. Years after that it became apparent most of my family hadn't ever eat at chicos (mostly leos, avilas, etc.) so we figured, what the hell let's give a shot. Well after eating there I don't think anyone enjoyed it and we all agreed to keep that opinion to ourselves.

We used to go there all of the time when I was little. The neon yellow cheese enchiladas were pretty dang good. Haven't been to one in about 15 years, but the one we used to frequent in Humble is still going.

Man hold up. When I lived in Hawaii, I'd frequently stop at a 7-11 on the drive home to grab one from their little heater box.

I had a similar experience the first time I had a Schlotzsky's sandwich. I was in 6th grade and we were canoeing the Guadalupe with another family. They bought schlotzskys and stuck them in plastic bags. We stopped for lunch and Mom gave that to me and I thought I had discovered fire. Unbelievable.

Filet of Fish from McDonalds...it takes me back to school and Fish on Fridays in the little rectangle shape. On the non-Friday days you could order Shark on a Bun from the snack bar, and it was just like McDonalds.

My life changed when I learned you can get a double filet of fish a few years ago. I forgo the fries when I do that.

Pace picante but only with Fritos. About once a year, I'll buy a small jar of pace and a bag of Fritos and go to town.

*Fritos are awesome all the time. As it relates to this thread, this post refers to Pace.

Agree that Fritos are the best. My Frito occasional indulgence is Scoops with bean dip.

Did anyone else's grandmother make a Frito "salad" when you were growing up?
