The hard part is so many of those "nostalgic" foods have evolved due to corporate ownership changes or health trends and no longer taste like they used to. Prime example on this thread is McDonald's nuggets. I'd probably buy a box from time to time if they still made them with dark meat. They just suck now and taste nothing like they used to. Same goes for a Big Mac although I make my own often enough to satisfy that craving.
So much truth in here. Not just that but the fries used to be fried in tallow. If you go to any restaurant that sells french fries or tots fried in tallow order them, they'll take you back in time. It's weird to say that I can remember eating fast food when it actually tasted good. I can remember growing up and being able to get great burgers at Sonic, DQ, and Wendy's in my hometown. Even Jack in the Box was good. That isn't the case anymore, they don't taste good anymore. Maybe that's a good thing that fast food tastes worse from most places now. I live in the midwest now and Culver's makes a good burger, that's my go-to if I'm in the mood for one.
I also have a soft place in my heart for cheap Tex-Mex, like Casa Ole. Plenty of better pizza out there but I still miss going to the Mazzio's in my hometown where we still had every soccer & baseball party and a good portion of birthday parties from my youth.
