Random, but do you have a link for those bottles?

I've made this the last few years and have gained more requests every year. I typically just use bottles and larger mason jars I have around, but want to get better bottles and make a few batches next year....

You may be able to get them cheaper other places, but these were the only ones I could find which could get here in time.

Made my first batch a week ago. So far it has been a big it with everyone that has tried it.

Made some in Aug '21. Had a bottle leftover that's been in the fridge since then. Looking forward to giving it a shot.

Curious if anyone has tried to reduce the recipe. Would like to mix up a batch for Christmas but at a smaller scale.

Honestly, its pretty well set up for a "whole batch"....you would end up with 6 eggs, half containers of everything....i would make it all....split it up in containers...worst case, have a little left over to throw away, give away, or store for a full year....

My batches seem to get mysteriously smaller right before I bottle them. It's weird I can't figure it out.

Yes. Make the whole batch & put whatever you have left over in the back of the fridge for next year

Judging from my first batch, I will be lucky to have any left for this Christmas. And I don't really drink it. But everyone who likes eggnog and has tried it thinks it is the best they have ever had. Made my second batch tonight and gonna give some as gifts.

Been handing out the eggnog we made back in September and MAN… that's some great stuff.

Of the two recipes - Alton Brown recipe is great. But the Sam's Serious Eggnog is even better.

Appreciate this thread for sparking our interest in eggnog. Have a Merry Christmas all!

Here's the recipe if anyone is interested:

Sam's Serious Eggnog
4 whole eggs cup
3/4 granulated sugar
2 cups half & half
1 cup heavy cream
2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground allspice
Pinch ground clove
4 oz dark rum
2 oz 151 rum
1 oz brandy
2 oz bourbon

DIRECTIONS

Whisk together eggs, sugar and 1 quart half & half in a 3-quart stainless steel bowl until sugar is dissolved.

In a separate bowl, combine spices and liquors and mix well.

Heat the egg mixture over a double boiler whisking constantly just until it starts to thicken.

Immediately remove from heat and add the cold heavy cream and remaining half & half to cool and stop cooking.

Stir in the liquor and spice mixture.

We quadrupled that recipe and I wish we'd made even more. Guess we're handing this out as gifts next year too!

Honestly if you like egg nog (assuming you have had non alcoholic before) and like a little bourbon…you will love it.

If you don't, you won't like it.

Nothing magical about it but very good assuming the above points.

Mine too, my best friend and his wife had to go to marriage counseling fighting over the last bottle I gave them two years ago. Since then I've doubled their allotment.

I gave one of my friends 1/2 a gallon. He asked me how much for 2 1/2 more gallons. He's got MLD tags so I traded him for my son and I coming out in freezer filler trip to bag 2 does. He tasted this batch and said take 3 does and he'll throw in a nice cull buck for my son. He sells his cull bucks for $7,500

It was worth a try. I had to buy HEB brand and added some buffalo trace.

Visiting family in Midland and we decided to whip up a batch of eggnog for Christmas.

Just tasted it and - boom - this batch is delicious already!

So even though I'd love to age the stuff, you definitely don't have to.

I'd encourage anyone thinking about doing this to just jump in and give it a go. Pretty sure whatever you make will blow away any store bought eggnog. And it's a great project to do with someone ya love… or you can seek refuge in the results if you're with folks ya don't like! Lol.

By the way - The Kraken black spiced rum goes really well in this.

Merry Christmas!

Down to my last pint of AB eggnog…

Made it for the first time back in August and I couldn't stand waiting for it to age so I had to try some…I thought it was terrible and that I'd end up throwing the rest out eventually. After forgetting about it in the fridge for a few months man did that change! Cannot believe how smooth it is and will definitely be making again for next year!

Had some eggnog last night I made earlier this week with bourbon, rum, and Mr Black coffee liqueur and it went over really well. There was just some coffee flavor in the background, nothing overpowering. Since it's basically an ice cream base it lends well to different flavors. Maybe next year I try using some peppermint schnapps and crme de cacao in the recipe.

Mine was a huge hit last night. The George Washington recipe turned out great, but the 352 Day aged AB recipe was amazing, even better than last year. Last year I did a 75 day one that was so good, but the 352 day was OUTSTANDING

Yep the bottle we saved from last year to drink on Eggnog Day (it's our holiday the day after Thanksgiving, it's the day that the yearly nog is made) was amazing.

I had 16 dozen egg whites from this year. We used about a dozen of them and had to throw the rest out. Guess I could've made a bunch of muffin tin egg bites and froze them?

We like to make some pavlova and forgotten cookies for the holidays. However that only works if you are making your batch for next year right before the holidays.

We just use them to make scrambled eggs. Sure, not as good as whole eggs, but at least not going to waste and it's easy. Also, adding mayo helps add some fat to the egg whites (doesn't add any mayo flavor), we actually add mayo every time we do scrambled eggs. Another alton brown recipe.
