I need a new cookware set

Get ready for an influx of people (including me) telling you that you really only need one cheap non-stick skillet for eggs.
SS is the way to go for cookware sets as it will last you much longer than non-stick, which tends to chip/flake over time no matter how much money you spend and lose it's non-stickiness; you will have to replace regardless. Plus SS is much more versatile.
I'm sure you will get some recommendations for non-stick cookware sets though and obviously you can form your own opinion based on those. Just trying to be helpful.

If you're going with non stick, it's better to go cheap and replace every couple years than expensive. If all you use is non stick, even the really nice stuff will wear out in 5. Ace mart is recommended a lot on here. Also, don't get a set. Buy individual pots and pans that you'll actually use.

My unsolicited food and spirits board opinion: personally, I don't like cookware sets. I find a lot of pieces don't get used and they take up space. With the $300 you have set aside, you could find some pretty sweet individual pieces and have an awesome personalized set.

This. Even the stuff with lifetime guarantees start sticking after 3-5 years, regardless of the care. Unless you want to go through the hassle of returning pans to hopefully get a replacement, cheap is the way to go. I am a convert on this.Bruce Almighty said:

While I can't imagine doing it now, in he late 90s I bought a 10 piece stainless All Clad set. Other than the non stick which was replaced a few years ago it has been bulletproof and I certainly don't regret the purchase.
Everything still looks and works great - not really sure how something like this could go 'bad'. I hit it with some Bon ami or Barkeepers friend everyone now and then and it still looks new.
I'm not saying that is worth what the price tag is on it, just saying it's been great for me.

All of my cookware is marked safe from going in the dishwasher
I've been really impressed by calphalon premier. You can find the entire set at Costco for $300.
I'm comparing to Circulon Infinite which was good too but lost performance over time and I noticed tiny missing pieces of finishing.

It occurred to me while I was reading the seriouseats head to head that Tramontinas version really competed with All-Clads basics. I bought a few All-Clad D5 stainless pans and they are remarkable.
I am in the market for a new set any new items or recommendations TexAgs would give?
Pro-tip: Every pan is non stick if you use enough butter.

Since this was bumped... Anyone have any experience with Misen cookware? I have some knives and like them, but curious on their pots/pans.

Vernada, I wish to find nowadays those sets as well. I've purchased them for a bigger price among all the cookware sets I've seen, but I was completely satisfied by it's non-sticky surfaces. Although, I also have Berlinger Haus cookware sets, and this manufacturer is also great, if we talk about high-quality and reliable stuff for kitchen.
I bought tramontina tri ply after reading a review done by a chef. He said they're just about as good as the all-clad and for the price he would buy the tramontina... the all-clad wasn't so much better that paying extra made sense. I really like mine.
