Wow that is looking amazing! So cool to follow this thread and see all the ups and downs of opening a brick and mortar location. Will definitely be on my list to stop by next time I am headed out that way!

Can't wait for my annual dove trip to Abilene, so I can visit. We have a big dinner the night we all get there, I am going to try and see if they will move it to your place instead of Abuelos like it is every year.

Give me a heads up, we can possibly have a custom "special" that day. I do know a guy over there.

Poured the bar, rather pumped on how this one came out! Had lot of friends and customers come in and help pour it all at once, we got a lot of bar.....

Top is made from the original wood floors of the building.

I wanted to bump this thread to sing Vagabonds praises. I go out to Abilene for the dove opener every year and we were able to visit Vagabond for lunch on Saturday. It was fantastic, everyone in our small group was talking about going back next year. Great job by BW and his wife.

I had to dig for this post, so I could comment on Vagabond Pizza. My boss and I drove to Abilene for a meeting with our contractor's. After our meeting, we went to eat lunch at Vagabond with some other guys in our Abilene office. I didn't know this is where we were going until we drove up. Needless to say, I was pretty stoked to try this place out since I had been following this thread.

I told everyone about this thread on Texags and why I was glad to finally make it. We ordered 4 different pizzas so we could try a sample of different ones. The Lucette was incredible. The salami and jalapeno jelly were great. One of the best pizzas I have ever had. The BLT was also a big hit with everyone at the table.

I just wanted to let Bonfire know that we had a great time meeting your wife and enjoying your pizza. Your wife was so genuine and nice that she is the perfect person to greet everyone. We didn't get to meet you because you were busy cooking and chatting with the people at the bar. I didn't want to interrupt.

Next time we are make it to Abilene, we will definitely be back. I am now planning a trip with my family for pizza and the zoo. Thanks again and hope to see you soon!

I live in Midland and have definitely been wanting to head over to Abilene to eat here. If the wife and I don't make a Saturday trip sometime, we will definitely have to stop through the next time we drive to DFW.

Somehow I missed this thread. Our son and daughter-in-law (and soon-to-be grandson) live in Abilene, as well as our "adopted" granddaughters, so we're there pretty often. Obviously have to check this out. Our son has celiac's; do you have any gluten-free offerings?

I can attest to their goodpeople-ness.

Thanks for the kind words! I am very happy that y'all enjoyed your visit. Our staff has been killing it! Things are going better than we could have hoped for.

Please, never hesitate to come up and talk to any of us, typically friends and family sit at the bar near the pizza oven, its NEVER an issue. I actually enjoy it.

If anyone will be in town on Wed. March 8th we are hosting our first Wine Dinner. Should be a great time, we will see how much we can mess up! (we will have tickets up on the website later this week, I hope)

unfortunately we do not offer a gluten free pizza, haven't found a GF flour that can survive the heat and be proud of. (outside of our salads, which don't stink in their own right , and some apps)

We do one thing quite well here, gluten....sorry.

we have a few prospects around the bend that we are pursuing/thinking about that will have some more friendly options.

shoot me an email if y'all decide to come in, we can always throw on a special that day that may fit a bit better. This is the beauty of a constantly rotating menu, we are pretty flexible. jason at vagabond pizza dot com

Xantham gum in the dough may help with the firing of the pizza. Or that is what a few moms on a GF board claim. That and use quinoa flour as 1/4 of the flour blend
bonfirewillburn

So 1/4 quinoa and 3/4 flour?

I fail to see how this could help celiacs?

Quinoa flour and whatever gluten free blend you are using.

Thought it was kinda obvious

Since the discussion was on gluten free, I figured you were able to understand my response was also gluten free.
